Forest of the Ancients Gate still locked at Chang'an

The "Forest of the Ancients Gate" in Chang'an still remains locked. I have tried everything suggested in the forums, including:
- killing all the Clay Soldiers, including the ones hidden in the river on the way back from the Chang'an Palace
- completing the loop from Chang'an, killing the boar monster, talking to the Yellow Emperor, leaving via the tunnel, completing the 3 sisters quest and returning to Chang'an. I have done this several times also.
- speaking to Feiyan a zillion times (she still says the same thing "So much depends on you!! Fight Bravely!!)
- speaking to Jing Ke, Guard of the Forest of the Ancients Gate a zillion times (he still says the same thing "We cannot open the gate. It is our last line of defense!!")
- speaking with the Emperor a zillion times (He keeps telling me to go find my destiny through the portal etc)
- killing every beast, plant and animal in sight many times over
Has anyone found a solution to this locked door problem?

bugfix fanpatch 1.17 is the first thing you do. if that doesn't work then tell us again
