Thread: New Player looking for advice?

Talking New Player looking for advice?

I've tried Titan Quest once or twice before on Steam, but never gave it a real chance. Coming off Diablo 3 and looking forward to Grim Dawn, I really wanna give the game a real shot. I'm looking for advice from veteran players, and also I'm really interested in finding some mods that enhance the game without altering the core of the game I guess. Is there an addon that allows skill resets in game without having to use a separate program?
Also I found all the lower level gear to look very similar and kinda boring, and I'm wondering if there is any mod that, I dunno, allows you to get have better looking gear that isn't over powered?

    Thanks everyone!

    Zach

Hey, Zach, welcome to the community! Always good to see new and returning players here.

There are many mods available here, although from my own personal playing experience, the only mods/tools I use are TQVault, the Fan Patch 1.17a, Defiler (only for the RNG Fix and the Slow-Cast Animation Fix), TQ Collector and Xmax. You can read up on all the mods/tools in the Modding Titan Quest section of the forums.

As for resetting skills in-game, there's a built-in feature that allows reallocation of skill points during gameplay. There are Mystics in most villages (Delphi and beyond) who allow you to buy back skill points (from skills, not from the mastery bar) so you can reallocate them into other skills. There's no way to reallocate attribute points in-game, however there are tools that allow you to do this (Defiler). So, if you don't like your skill set-up, you can always spend some gold and redo your skills once you hit Delphi and beyond.

As for gear/item mods, I don't twink so I just use what the game provides. The gear gets better the farther along you go, howerver, and once you hit Epic and Legendary, you'll have access to some excellent gear. Also, if you're not averse to farming, you can find some amazing items that can really benefit your toon.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy the game. If you have any questions or comments, don't be afraid to post. We're here to help.

Thanks a lot for the info! I'm also curious about what sort of class combinations people tend to enjoy, what are your own personal favorites? I'll have to look into some of those Mods you mentioned. I went ahead and installed the Fan Patch.

Hi Kraytt, welcome to the game. I totally agree with Defboy, TQvault, defiler and xmax are essential additions to the game.
As for favourite class combinations you will probibly find everyone has their own preferance. I personally play with a different toon depending on my mood, if I want to just mow through creeps without thinking I play eith haruspex or templar, both hit hard and are super tough to kill. When I feel the urge to use spells I use a freddie cruger ritualist or ternion spamming diviner. for a bit of a challenge I play as either ranger, avenger or warrior(no second mastry).
Thats what I love about this game you can play just the way you want to :-)

Hi Kraytt and welcome to the forum. Gosh, you've asked the question now haven't you. Favourite classes. The game gives you so many choices that there'll be lots of different favourites that players have, depending on how they prefer to play the game. One of my favourites is the Conqueror (Defense/Warfare) your classic tank combo. He's the first one I've gotten to the end of Legendary, both on my old PC and on my new. Rogue is a favourite mastery of mine and although I didn't get to the end of the game before my old PC crashed I was enjoying playing a Dreamkiller (Rogue/Dream), an Assassin (Rogue/Warfare) and a Corsair (Rogue/Defense). I like Hunting mastery too and have managed to get a Brigand to the end of the game though I found survivability difficult for me, but that's the only Hunting toon I've finished the game with so far. I have a Sage (Hunting/Storm) working her way through Normal at the moment and also a Bone Charmer (Hunting/Spirit).

There will be better gear available the further you go in the game so downloading the TQVault program will be essential for storage purposes. You can't use it while playing, but it gives you the opportunity for endless storage vaults that you can name as you please. I have ones like Green melee weapons, Blue staffs, Purple armour & shields, jewellery, etc, with about 30 vaults so far. Once you're in the Vault program it's easy to move stuff to/from toons and caravan so all those mage items your melee toon keeps finding can be stored in the Vault and given to mage toons when needed.

TQDefiler as Defboy99 says will allow you to change masteries if you want (but you still need to buy back the skills first before you can change otherwise you lose all the skill points). It's mostly recommended for the RNG and Slow Cast fixes, but you can also freeze time of day, stack potions, increase drops, etc.

TQCollector is a great little program which allows you to see all the special items in the game (Uniques, MI's, etc) and to spot easily and quickly which ones you already have and which you still have to find. Once the TQVault starts filling up it can be difficult to know whether you have an item so the Collector makes it easy to check.

just so you know, if you are careful you can use TQvault in-game by only putting items from your vault into your caravan. just dont try to give it to your toon ingame. that will save you having to drop out of multiplay to go get something.
Huge respect to Medea though, shes awesome.
