Game randomly shuts itself off?

I am running Windows 7, 64-bit, running through Steam. I have owned this game for a long time and never had any issues with it, but the last couple days it seems like the game just randomly likes to turn itself off while I'm playing. I use TQ-Vault for item storage (never while the game is currently running), and Defiler for a couple small fixes (like no night/day cycle, and potion stacking), also never loaded while the game is running, and even still I never had problems before this. I do not have any of the mods in use that are not functional with downloaded copies of the game. I am aware of the possible lag issues if you stack way too many potions but I never stack more than 25 anyway. I am running the fanpatch for TQ:IT. I am also running X-Max, but it's never caused me issues before either.

I have absolutely no idea what causes this. I tried to do a search in this forum for "steam", "off", and "down" hoping something would come up and I didn't see anybody else with this problem. Google showed a couple people with it but nobody really helped them so...yea. No answers there either.

Any ideas? This is getting beyond frustrating. I understand that it's possibly some kind of copy protection that does this, but I don't see why that should be hitting me considering I own and play the game through Steam.

Try to turn off all defiler functions and play without them. It somethimes buggs the game so that it shuts off itself. Idk what the problem is, but putting the options (from mods by...) off did help by someone else who had the same problem. Maybe a changed position in the modified game files which causes the game to close, idk, never looked at the problem again.
