Thread: Do I need all this money?

Do I need all this money?

Hi all. I looked around for an answer and couldnt find one. So, sorry ahead of time.

My question: Do I need to slow down to pick up all the trash gear? Do I need the money? Or can I ignore most of the trash? It's a bit tedious having to port to town to sell off every 10-15 minutes.

    Thanks!

You can find really good items in shops that are very expensive

Yes, is the short answer. As Nightmare14 says, things get very expensive in late Epic and into Legendary. I'm talking 30mil+ for one item alone in Legendary, so if you're lucky enough to find a couple of good items at the same time then you can easily take a large chunk out of a 100mil stash to pay for them. Plus the Enchanter also gets more expensive to remove items from gear, the bigger Artifacts cost more to make and the Mystic will cap out at 45,000 per point for every one you want to buy back if respeccing.

If you've got a reasonable sum in hand then only pick up yellows, greens, blues and purples and leave the other stuff as it's not worth much anyway. At the start of a game though, I always pick up whites as well as every little bit helps to build cash reserves to expand your caravan storage and work towards those millions you're going to need later. It is a pain, especially early game when your inventory bags aren't fully expanded, but it will be worth it later.

The way I look at it, you need to visit the vendors fairly regularly anyway. Unlike some other RPGs, vendor items are among the best in TQ:IT. If you plan to play through the whole game only using uniques that you find, your toon will probably end up quite weak. Particularly in the late game, greens can outperform purples by a long way.

So if you need to visit the vendors anyway, why not get some cash while you're doing it? That doesn't mean you need to pick up white items and every sellable thing that drops. Just pick up yellows or better and sell them off when your inventory is full. That way, you'll be visiting the vendors regularly and will have a much better chance of finding those godly dual affix greens.

You'll also have more than enough gold to do whatever you want in game - respec, buy items for your other toons, socket and unsocket items at will, buy the best Sacrificial amulets you can find, and so on. There is certainly no penalty for having a lot of gold.

After a certain point (roughly after purchasing the last storage upgrade at the caravan) I tend to pick up only greens or better and jewelry - best price per inventory space. And of course relics and charms, partly because of selling them completed also makes a decent profit and partly because of trophy hunting

Jewelry gives the worst price per inventory space imo. Unless it's a Sacrificial amulet. Any yellow three tile short sword will sell for 250k in A4L, ie more than 80k per tile. Four tile yellows earn 62.5k per tile. You'd be lucky to get a third of that per tile for jewelry.

The main advantage of jewelry is that you can fill up all those nooks and crannies in your inventory. But given the choice between selling a yellow helm or four jewelry pieces, I'd take the helm.

I just pick everything for the first level when i have no money and no gear. After i pick just yellows and just the ones i think are more expensive. And i already have 1-2M by 3 act!
I just bought very few things on the shop, i almost never see greens there, i think i just found once a decent necklace and a yellow defender shield. I dont spend on separating chars from gear, i use TQVault for that, its kinda stupid seeing one part destroyed with the separation!
Anyway im just in A4N and im playing several chars that are twinkling a lot, maybe latter shop gear get better...

You'll always want to have plenty of gold on you e.g an act4 legendary veteran's jian of harrowing~30million gold. A hallowed helm of.. 30 million+ gold. It will happen that during a session you see vendors selling a lot of incredibly powerful items, this won't happen often, so when it does, you really want to have a lot of gold ready

You just check one by one all the gear he have? I dont have much patience to do that. Sometimes i just give a fast look on some items, but as its almost always crap i dont care much.

This is what I do for my conq and it's awful. You can ignore any white or yellow items which saves a bit of time. I have find some decent weapons, helms and jewelry, but it takes time.

Hopefully, someone else can give you (and me) some more shopping tips.
