Equipement lost and/or out of position

I posted this on TQVault2.3.1.4 thread:

"Hi.
Was everything ok with my vault but after creating a new Vault for my new character a weird thing is happening, the next time i open the TPVault an error shows up saying:
"Error reading player file
C:\.....
Error parsing player file equipment block "Dualitis - IT" (dualitis is the new character).
And the next time i start the game for that player i have a ring in the bangle place, a bangle were should be my wraps, wraps disappeared, a mace on ring place, a mace as artefact . I open TQVault again and things look messy on the equipment there too.
Whats going on? I have no idea if this was because of the new player or because i created a new vault (did both at same time).

But after reorganizing the gear it was ok and i didnt had more problems for a few days until now..
2 or 3 days ago i started a 3rd character and a 3rd vault and was everything ok, but today the error showed up again starting TQVault and now affecting my 1o and my 2o characters, with gear in wrong positions.. duplicated..missing.. I started the game to see if there things were messy too, and they were, i couldnt see my artefact, i was about to tilt hard, but after i saw that there were 2 of them on the secondary equipment position
Anyway i think i lost my 2o character greaves and armbands, think they were yellows, so its not a big deal, but if this errors continue probably i will start loosing my blues or greens and that will make me tilt very hard.
Everything ok with my 3o character.
Any idea how to solve this? (im not playing with the vault open at the same time).
I have Win7, TQIT with fanpatch.
Its possible to uninstall and install the vault again without loosing my gear? Maybe install an older version...
Any idea will be welcome.

Sure you can reinstall the Vault without loosing gear, for being sure you can copy the vault save dates from their save directory. Check the vault thread to find out where those are. I never had this problem, but from what the error message says I think it had problems with coordinating the items in the right places. In the player file any item is built as a block and if you write one wrong it will affect any item else in your character and move their places. Some of them are moved in impossible places than and be deleted by the game automatically to make the character functionally again.

I adjusted the equipment to the correct places in game and now its everything ok, no errors nor displacements.
Yesterday something came to my mind, i think i changed some gear that the character had equipped using the vault, maybe that caused the errors. I wont try to replicate this because i dont want to risk loosing equipment and having everything out of place. I wont change any equipped gear from now on and see what happens.

I had the exact same glitch occur on one of my characters. When I reopened the vault after an error everything was out of place. My weapon & shield were suddenly in the ring slots, my rings were gone, etc. Although, when I tried moving the equipment in-game the items became something else. Rings or amulets I think. Anyway, I restored the character from the backup *.CHR file, after downgrading to 2.3.0.x and haven't experienced any problems since.

so i think that might be the origin of the problem.

I copied the most recent backup file* with that character's name from the TQVaultData\Backups folder to the SaveData\Main\_<charactername> folder, and then renamed it to Player.chr

*The correct extension is CHR not CHA.

Same happened to me.

Haven't played TQ in a few years. I have a bunch of characters and vaults backed up on dvd, made with different TQVault and fan patch versions and win xp, and had to use Defiler to re-instate the shared stash as I'm now using win7 64. For me it started fairly quickly... though I did switch equipped items around from within TQVault early on. Perhaps that is where the issue starts. If so, it's inconvenient but easily avoidable.

Will see about downgrading TQVault. Any hunches as to why this problem would exist in 2.3.1.4 but not 2.3.0.4?
