Blizzard Suing Valve over "DOTA" name

    http://kotaku.com/5883938/blizzard-is-suing-valve

Is it just me, or is this ridiculous?

I'm aware that Blizzard is probably in the right (DOTA is a mod/map for their game, therefore they own the rights to it.) but this is just stupid.

Take your pick if you don't like Kotaku.

    edit: some information to enjoy:
"Quote from the License agreement: 2. Ownership. All title, ownership rights, and intellectual property rights in and to the Program and any and all copies thereof (including, but not limited to, any titles, computer code, themes, objects, characters, character names, stories, dialog, catch phrases, locations, concepts, artwork, animations, sounds, musical compositions, audio-visual effects, methods of operation, moral rights, any related documentation, and "applets" incorporated into the Program) are owned by Blizzard Entertainment or its licensors."
-Eul Created DoTA, which was based off a starcraft map called Aeon of Strife, only hipsters know of it.

-Eul went mia and passed the map to guinsoo. Guinsoo worked on the original map and made some classic heroes.

-Guinsoo passed the map to Icefrog who improved the game and balanced it for competitive play as well as introducing new heroes.

DoTA was a public title and an international community asset.

Valve Hires Icefrog who ports the game into a new game engine which is all fair because dota is a public property that anyone can use.

However Valve attempts to trademark dota and wants to make it a valve title, despite having no affliation with the actual game itself. Blizzard is pissed because the original dota ran on their engine.

Blizzard could have copyrighted dota a year ago, however they want to preserve it as a public title. No one should own dota, it belongs to the community.

Didn't Blizzard say they were suing Valve when the original rumors surfaced? (iirc)

This could just be a marketing stunt from Blizzard so people don't forget they are workingoan a dota game too. It's not like Valve is trademarking the gameplay or heroes, it's just a name. This kind of stuff only matters to the marketeers, not to us gamers, the dota universe does not have a rich or interesting story behind it.

There may be no 'I' in team, but there's a 'ME' if you look hard enough.

this is really silly. why does anyone need to own the dota name? To be honest it should belong to the original programmer of the game- in a perfect world.

Thing is, even they said "DotA belongs, and always will, to Blizzard"

Now that VALVe has their own DOTA title, Blizzard is making shit. Which is silly, yes

I don't see why Valve doesn't just change the name. It's not like the hardcore dota fans don't already know who the lead developer behind DOTA and the new DOTA2 is, a name change wouldn't be a big issue not to mention it's not really a sequel, so the 2 is unnecessary.

I mean seriously - your options are fight Blizzard with an annoying, childish battle (who will probably win because they are GREEDY and have more money than valve) or just change the name and keep everything you have already. Come on.
