    Found underlord impossible to play

I installed TQ, IT and then underlord to the IT folder.

I started up a new game, and noticed all the beginning enemies were levels 3-5...when i am level 1.

I managed to make it as far as helos before i got stuck, since i can barely fight a level 3 satyr one on one and i usually get rushed by 3-5 of them.

Also i dont see any way to restore my hp in town at all, so i end up having to stand around and wait for regeneration after every single fight (rest skill has a long cooldown apparently).

Is this normal or did my installation botch? For a diablo 2 style game i dont expect to run out of the first town and find that i am barely stronger than the weakest monster. I simply cannot progress at all because i die within 5 seconds or lose half my hp fighting a level 3 satyr with the starting dagger and then stand around for 2 minutes to regenerate my health.

Have you played TQ very much? Sorry for the stupid question, Question... but you have a 2008 join date, and 82 posts so I would think you have played before. If you haven't I think you should have a run thru the vanilla game first. I'd recommend finishing normal with at least one toon, then try Underlord.

Underlord is a very nicely balanced (read: difficult) mod to the Titan Quest game, but if you're unfamiliar with TQ itself, you will find UL extremely difficult.

Once you know the TQ AI, it isn't too hard to get those level 3's into a 1-on-1 so you're not getting gangsmashed. Then you will find the cooldown on the rest skill to be nicely balanced (6 mins, I think)... and won't be using it at all after about Sparta or so (with a good build). The best way to pull mobs is to use a bow, and wait for one to be somewhat seperated from others. Hit him and run to a safe spot not far away, then either pincushion him or whack him until dead.

I think it is a good thing all those mobs are level 3 around Helos. It is pretty easy to hang around here until level 5 or 6 (farming the Satyr mage, etc) and you don't get any exp from a level 1 mob after you hit level 3 or 4... so it keeps the area interesting for a little longer than the original... which is a good thing as it's harder than the original!

I did play TQ a long time ago. I stopped playing for a long time because the final TQ boss (the titan) would just one shot me with some AOE attack even though i was loaded with sets and other rare items....

The problem is i dont want to slowly exploit their AI to try and 1v1 these guys and then stand around for 2 minutes regenerating hp for an hour or so until i can "start the real game". Thats not really what i consider fun...its like playing a very old school RPG or MMO that punishes you heavily from the beginning.

I really expect to be fighting enemies around my level and the challenge to come from making correct decisions using my skills and items and fighting hard bosses...but when you are level 1 with a dagger, you don't have any options at all and it's just a chore.

Originally downloaded this because the balance patch was never going to be released.

    Ahhh.. gotcha.

Well, I guess you could either bite the bullet and slog it out until you get a skill that you can kill with (Munderbunny ensured every mastery had something useful to use at level 2 or 3... or

Play vanilla TQ, build up a couple of items, and come back to UL when you've gotten back into the swing of things (so to speak).

I believe UL will give you the challenge you're anticipating, just will be a rocky start, instead of a easy breezy start.

I managed to get to level 2, but i had to exploit the "no xp loss at level 1" feature.

Basically just kept suciding over and over till i hit level 2 instead of waiting for my hp to regenerate. Was pretty damn silly.

At level 14 now, took storm mastery. Basically been using cold bolt + thunder ball...seems to work pretty well so far. Cyclops was pretty easy with stuns and kiting, and the drop rates feel much better balanced.

Gold still seems useless though. Nothing to spend it on except for pots.

Not sure what to use for my second mastery...

No offense, but I love people who, after a death, directly go to the forum to complain the game is impossible, bla bla bla...
Then they decide to change/adapt their strategy/gameplay and realize that.... the game is OK in the end

There is no need to abuse a "no exp death" to reach lvl2. Just avoid mobs, use the rest skill and you are done.
I see you already are lvl14 so that means it is far to be impossible

Its not much of an achievement to exploit AI to lure mobs one by one and then wait 2 minutes to regenerate hp.

Sure, you can do it, its just not fun, especially considering the game is supposed to be a "kill lots of enemies" one.

Edit : Quick question about +% damage...

Lets say i have a skill that does 10 cold damage. I then equip an item that gives me +50% cold damage. I now do 15 cold damage with that skill. Is that right?

What if i activate a buff that gives me +50% cold damage. Same thing?

Yes, what else could it possibly do?

As for "exploiting AI", it's more like pulling targets to confront them tactically. Many games have this tactic so... nothing new here.

As for sitting still to regen... buy some damn potions man, wtf. If you can't handle a fight just pull the mobs back to some guards. Works wonders for early Helos in UL.

Potions are pretty expensive when you only start with 500 gold. And you dont get xp if the guards kill the mobs for you.

What about skills like storm nimbus and artic shell? They add a flat damage, not % elemental damage. Does that kind only work with weapons or skills? Same goes for items that add +x damage instead of a %.

Re: Helos bridge guards: No XP... unless you get the "lucky shot" to kill the enemy but you can get the items they drop to use, or sell so you can buy more potions.

Flat damage will only affect weapon attacks, yes, unless it is on a shield (when only a shield attack will get that bonus, so you have to have Defence mastery in that rare case). So, nimbus and shell add damage to your sword/bow/staff LMB attacks, the same as a ring with 2-5 fire damage (or burn damage), or gear with ...of the Gryphon (+x elemental).
