Thread: Shoulders and Guns

    Shoulders and Guns

    Don't like 'em.

The entire shoulder thing always seemed like a really lame way to increase equip count. Would rather seen a cloak, or perhaps separate tunic and armor, but shoulders I have hated since WOW.

As for guns, they don't really make sense, if you think about. The sound of a gunshot would either attract or scare away every monster within miles. Never mind the annoyance of the sound itself.

I understand the guns can be modded out, but what might a player do replace the shoulders?

I don't see how guns don't make sense in a completely fictional world infested with undead and demons.

Hell, demons can manifest anything according to all kinds of lores, possessing people (including the player), opening rifts inside cities, whatever, I think the bests weapon of choice would be a rifle or something. Considering this takes place in an alternate victorian era, I don't see guns being to obscure of a ranged weapon choice.

Also - there are forums for GD, why not post there?

You're right about the guns. Our armies should replace those loud guns with bow and arrows. Nobody will hear us coming and we'll keep our hearing intact. Maybe blowdarts, the bow still makes that loud "woosh" sound. Let's replace our close combat knives and swords with sticks while we're at it. Or battle swabs.

I will talk with medierra to put silencers for the guns. As for the shoulders, why not replace them with the harry poter cloak that makes you invisible?

^Lmao at the above post. I don't mind shoulder guards, just it seems... that there's so little possible variety in those.

I definetaly like the idea of using guns adleast for a change?... as long as they don't end up being utterly overpowered to make anyone else using anything but a gun look stupid... Guns have a lot more options for variety than bows. Basically only variety between bows in TQ was their damage and effects... We didn't even get crossbows, as some Bow-friendly games do.

However with guns it can be eather a "nuke" with really slow reload time. A high damage and simply slow reload time. A rapid fire low damage. I'm not even talking about possible projectile and firing mode differences.

Now on the other hand using " skills " with guns is another question... It's not like you'll manage to do " Volley " or something with a shotgun... but then again it's fictional what the heck.. Maybe we'll be able to charge our powerful mental abilities to force the gun to shoot 3 quick successive shots or Infuse our next bullet with some magical energy to inflict increased damage.
Melee weapons and the like are a lot more "skill" usage friendly... all the possible combos you could do to aid yourself in battle. I think the problem is that Guns are too technical to actually involve much " magic " around them, but we'll see how it all turns out.

Another approach would be that a gun would be like a "side-arm" that u actually don't use against every monster, but actually use your sword or mace or axe and then switch to gun ( with limited ammo and whatnot ) to actually take down some bigger beast, but then again this also seems a bit Wierd to me. Having a powerful weapon as a side-arm, that doesn't get many skills and most of your skills will be oriented towards melee weapons?

I kinda like the gun being a very powerful weapon, and bows being less powerful; I think there's some room to balance the two between different firing rates, special weapon effects, and (most importantly, in my opinion) the amount of aggro each draws. Obviously, guns with their loud noises and smoke and such would draw more aggro, while silenced guns or bows would subsequently draw less aggro. Especially if guns are slow-firing (which seems fairly probable), it'd have to be a tactical decision between whether to try to thin out the mob with a quieter weapon or go in guns blazing and try to kite your way out. I think needing more than one weapon for all encounters is definitely a good thing, as it adds variety and makes you think about what you're fighting.

Just the thought that guns are so technical, imagining "skills" or some shiny, glossy awesome looking visuals or "swings" or "moves" to it is a bit ... difficult. However I can name Boarderlands, which is a tad-different game but still and RPG (+ a shooter ) and there characters also had different skills with weapons and it wasn't all that bad, but then again those skills were mostly resolved around decrease of reload time, increased damage, increased fire rate and/or some negative effects on enemies... No awesome looking unique visuals or "moves" for skills tho, but yea I don't drop-down this idea, I'd like to see how Crate solve this out. Titan Quest has proved that they're quite well into the genre and have a fair bit of good ideas and also think and analyse how one or other thing impacs the gameplay and so on. Adleast that's the impression they've left me.

In TQ I always wanted to run my Warden wearing nothing but his Corinthian helmet and a leather speedo, but somehow the game doesn't allow you to take of your chiton. Fortunately they made an entire movie about it!
