Thread: [Release] Uber for Underlord 1.52

  1. #21
I'm doing an update to the mod. Will upload them soon (if my internet connection co-operates).

Thank you for your work . I am eagerly waiting.

Out of curiosity, if I wanted to upgrade to Uber after I get used to the new Underlord masteries, would I keep my current characters and gear?

As a supporting question, is Uber something you play twinked or untwinked? I liked that playing as pure melee was actually somewhat difficult in Underlord until you started rolling in higher level gear, so I am interested in a difficulty increase that is reasonable, but I don't want to overcompensate with faceroll gear at first.

You can keep your current character and gear. Uber-Underlord is Underlord, just harder with better boss rewards (especially the orb bosses, ie. Telkines, Typhon, Hades, Charon, Leinth). You also get a -22% items requirement reduction to help your character out.

So how is it harder? Monsters' attacks hurt more, they have more health, they spawn xmax style. Bosses spawn in groups of 6.

Starting out melee is definitely possible, although it will be tougher than plain Underlord. I would recommend starting out with a bow for the first few levels until you have decent skills.

Yeesh. So instead of 3x multiplier there is a 6x multiplier that affects bosses on top? Bawls. My Warden cried enough as it is because I started as Defense and had to wait a few centuries until I had a enough points to get my AoE attacks.

Um. Out of curiosity, does the new multiplier affect the Blood Cave, etc. as well?

    What's new in this version:

    - Most quest-related heroes/champions spawn 6x (Bloated One, Bone Scourge, etc.).
    - Blood Cave High Priest mini-boss and Aegobolus spawn 6x
    - Scroll pets (breaking wheel, storm witch, etc) now have more health, resistances, and do more damage. To encourage scroll usage.
    - Starting out weapon is now a bow
    - Pet bonuses now a bit more interesting (in Uber-orbs only)
    - Boars and Satyrs for the first quest (Rescue the Horse) now give a bit more exps.
    - A surprise at Tegea, starting in Epic...

As always, back-up your character files.

    Yes. xmax blood cave monsters.

It's best if you're really familiar with Underlord before trying out Uber-Underlord.

The rewards are numerous, but it's definitely harder... Although with the increased spawning, you level up quicker.

Hmmm. I am very, very tempted to start doing this once I have completed my 3 normal characters (Spirit/Nature, Earth/Nature, Hunting/Defense). I think I have a relatively good grip on hack and slash gameplay in general and the three chars are doing a good job of familiarizing me with the changes to gameplay by M-bunneh (I understand nerfing Ternion and 100% immunity shenanignas, but why did he nerf energy drain against bosses?! Jerk ).

Target prioritization, weapon switching, when to commit against a group or not, when to kite, when to dodge arrows, usefulness of various item properties, appropriate damage/armor levels to upkeep, etc. I think I have a competent grasp on all of that.

Soo... am I suicidally overconfident to just attempt Uber with 3 playthroughs worth of normal gear? Or is it doable with a general understanding of mechanics and some feel for various playstyles (ranged, tanky melee, summoner, nuker)?

Try it. Switch back if you feel it's a bit too much.

Try less-uber first (it's a bit less stringent with the death & potion penalties). If you feel that's a bit too easy, then try more-uber.

I already know I prefer the lower penalty death penalty (I sometimes can't resist being reckless for the lulz) but not the lower potion cooldown. Pot spam makes this game too easy no matter the circumstance (one of the reasons I am really hoping Diablo 3's experiment with health orbs works out).

Still, yeah, I'll just plunge in. I doubt your changes will have significantly done anything to curtail the effectiveness of stuff like Storm or Earth in Normal, so if worst comes to worst, I can Eruption/Meteor my way through to Epic and use the delicious 6x the drops to equip the weaker classes.
