mine character gender depends on the masteries (warfare ,spirit ,eaarth etc is male when nature ,hunting etc is female
For me this whole discussion comes down to: I ain't roleplaying and I'm not playing online in TQ so I want to look at the something nice for a couple of hours while playing and therefore this male will have a female character. I'm the puppetmaster and she's my puppet is how I look at it.
But that does mean that when I am playing a true roleplaying game or some online game (LOTRO,Guild Wars), I am playing a dude (as I am a dude). I tried a female character in LOTRO and it just felt wrong. It's too much of a roleplaying game for me to switch genders and I've met people (even women) while playing (with Voice ability turned on) and most real women rpg players aren't turned on by the whole male transgender routine.
So I guess I'm a closeted, cross-dressing, TQ gamer. But I don't do that online.![]()
A2-Gamer
I don't get why people are so critical of what sex other people play.
We're talking about Titan Quest.
The internet and games are filled with MALES, if males only played male characters two things would happen:
1) They'd scare every female away (from being hit on ALL THE TIME - then again some women may like this)
2) It'd look pretty gay having men all over the place
This is not eharmony. Why do people care so much? Are you all so lonely and desperate that you get angry at some anonymous guy, who is potentially thousands of miles away, for playing a female character?
Do these guys get angry when some ugly, fat, disgusting, hairy, dirty, smelly, or already married female plays a hot looking character?
Honestly, I think guys watching football is worse than guys playing female characters.
1) Cuddles. Err.. I mean Huddles
2) Spandex pants
3) Tackling other men
4) Butt slapping
5) Where the quarterback puts his hands
6) Not to mention all the "unseen" things going on in the locker rooms....

Until proven otherwise, I assume you have the cognitive abilities of a bottle of ketchup.

And so even the most resilient fall...
But seriously, why (and when) do I play a female toon? (WTF there is a reason beyond boobies in chainmail bikini?)
On TQ it's as stated, male toons just look like shaved gorillas (In worst case gorillas with Hesione's golden veils!).
Other reasons for choosing a female over male have really been mentioned over and over on this thread. Like say voice acting (Male grunting like East German shot putter everytime he gets hit.) to the thing that fills the center part of your screen for the duration of the game (ie. Lara's derriere vs. The bum of the burly lumberjack!)
And just because there is a romance option when playing a fem char doesn't mean you absolutely have to take it.
Nuff said

First of all I need to say there are some very good reasons in this topic. This however doesn't really matter since it's not a shame or strange to play a female character as a guy. Since it's just all about the joy and fun of playing and nothing more.
But yes, I also have played a couple female characters in the past. Mostly characters with masteries like nature and/or storm. The main reason why I choose these characters of mine to be female is probably just that it's nicer to see a woman walk around then a man. As far I know they made the female character walk more elegantly. So why would I choose to play an extreme ugly male character if I could look at a nice (and hopeless to perfect) female character....
Also I think some masteries just need te be played with a female. Masteries like nature, earth, storm are in my opinion more pure, elegant and intelligent. And these things aren't the exact characteristics of the average man.

I chose to play a female character in TQ for pretty much one reason, when I created my first it was a guy but I just found the running animation to be so strange and lateral that I couldn't play. Other then TQ it's fairly varied, I always choose depending on models and animations. A large amount of MMOs and RPGs I've played have either super effeminate male characters(especially elves) or overly masculine muscle piles, so I figure playing a girl is a step up from either of those. I'm not macho nor am I skinny and girlish but a hyper-advanced character creator isn't a standard feature for most RPGs out there. So until I can scan myself into my computer whole or make a character I really want to play as, I just try to live with whatever each game offers.
