Haven't read the books, but I saw the movie today. Was not bad. Entertaining definitely. Nice action and CGI of the creatures and scenery (check out the scene as soon as Charon delivers them into the bulk of the Underworld - stunning!).
A few things I didn't like: Greek mythology and modern setting do not go together. It was painful to see Greek mythology get molded to fit the modern American lifestyle and all that crap. And for those who saw the film, WTF is with the entrance to the Underworld being right next to......The HOLLYWOOD FREAKING SIGN!!!
I also found a lot of it to be cheesy. The actor who played Grover was funny, but Percy and Anabeth were so-so. And their sword fighting was way too clomsy. They needed more choreography.
PS: Roland, I think I know what about lead actor bothered you. It's the same that bothered me. He looks like Zac effin Efron!

The Hollywood sign? Bahahaha in the books it was in this fake record company called DOA records iirc...does Charon still like Italian Suits?

Not sure. They showed him as this weird semi-silent guy, who doesn't care about money and just prefers those coins.

Yeah, read the books and seen the movie . . . personally, I wish I'd seen the movie first, though that might have put me off the books . . . anyway, for those who haven't seen the movie yet, try not to compare it to the books. As a movie in and of itself, I think it does fairly well, but the books are far better, far far better! I also just saw the preview chapters of The Lost Hero, the first in the sequel to this series and it looks about as good as the first series

Enjoy I'm now thinking of ways to build certain characters in Titan Quest, unfortunately I'm having trouble with both Percy and Annabeth >_< Shout if you have any brilliant ideas for their class paths, please

EDIT: Charon is just plain old mythical Charon in the film, silent, in a black robe, it's a shame really, I loved the italian suit one from the books And the coins are Golden Drachmas The currency of Ancient Greece, and of the Gods, so that still fits.

^Now that book looks interesting. I'll have to snatch it as soon as it hits the shelves. Could it be that "Jason" is really Percy? After all he did survive that huge shock...hmm.

However surely Annabeth would have recognised him if he was Percy, unless there's something more devious going on, but I suspect that his quest will be to find Percy, and that he will succeed where Annabeth has failed, could cause some interesting issues between the two of them. But I'm interested to see who this Jason is a son of, from those couple of chapters, Zeus sounds plausible, and particularly after he lost Thalia to the hunt, but who knows, maybe he isn't one of the big three. Anyways, starting to go off-topic with this one :P

So was anyone else disappointed not only with the big things in the film, but also the little things? Like the shield bracer, wrong book, wrong person giving it to him. The shoes, Percy would never have survived using them as stated in the book, the lack of any mention of Kronos . . . well ok, maybe that's more of a big one The whole Capture the Flag game, and the lack of Clarisse >_< How could they omit her?

EDIT: Though there may be an explanation for Annabeth not recognising Jason as Percy in your idea, the Satyr mentions that Jason has a powerful way with the mist, so much so that untrained demigods possibly can't see through it, though if isn't stated anywhere if they truly are his friends or not, it's just an assumption on my part, given that the Satyr hasn't seen him before that day. Anyways, maybe he can even fool trained demigods . . .

EDIT2: A few other things I picked up from skim-reading bits, Butch might be a son of Iris, no matter how bizarre it may sound, but he does have a rainbow tattoo, not something you'd associate with a son of either hephaestus or ares, which are the only other two that make sense for his size. Leo, possibly Hephaestus, with his constant fiddling, and the ability to make a helicopter out of random stuff that actually flies! Not certain about Piper, haven't picked up any clues for that one yet.

Well I think that with a lot of things that were wrong with the movie, I don't think they're going to get a sequel. It felt like they didn't even try to stay accurate to the books. And the way they ended it makes me think that there will not be any kind of sequel. Just a one-shot deal (thankfully).

As far as Percy being Jason...I dunno. It should be interesting to see this play out. And Piper, obviously her mother was the god since one of the "cool" kids said that Piper never met her. Could be a lot of different ones. We'll see soon enough, though...when is the book coming out?
