    Titan Quest Blog

What do you guys think of a running miniblog settled in a thread like this where you can just post random musings about TQ? You guys might even have something like this, but I don't think I've seen it. Say you've just burned a couple hours in game and you'd like to share some sort of noteworthy experience. This wouldn't disuade you from making regular posts with new questions and topics, but serve more as a kind of freeform stream of consciousness journal entry about your day in Titan Quest.

That or if you have a different idea, I'd welcome a suggestion, of if you think I'm off my rocker please say so.

What about using Twitter + a uniform hashtag? That way, you could create an actual feed with little effort. So a post would be something like: "The Cyclops killed me today! #titanquest" on Twitter.

    Re: Titan Quest Blog

OK, I'll give it a go, with two very important lessons that the last day of play in TQ:IT have taught me:

    1. Don't be a clot

OK, this one is fairly obvious, but there are times when you just can't help it. Imagine the scene: my new Bone Charmer is flying through early Epic like a very fast thing, maxed Scatter Shot is owning mobs on X4 mod, I've finished Normal with no deaths, I'm looking forward to getting Crosier of Osiris and a good spear and turning her into a life reduction death-dealing boss-slaughtering machine who can switch between bow and spear as needed.

So I get to Old Eleusis, where I have nine skellie bosses waiting for me. And, as I make my way down the steps into the dungeon, I pause for dramatic effect, stab a forefinger at the screen pointedly and intone "DO NOT shoot the melee guys when they have Rally up". As is my wont. Because, being a bit of a TQ:IT vet, I am well aware of just what a nasty thing Rally can be for a big damage toon. Sort of like mini-Toxeus, if you get my drift.

Anyway, I rumble on into the room with the three melee skellies. And my first two shots shred the first guy and leave the other two teetering on the edge of extinction. And, being melee skellie bosses, their instant response is to cast Rally on themselves and charge me.

So, even as I turn instinctively to flee them until Rally wears off, my mind is working overtime. And it's saying to me "Hang on, this Bone Charmer has places to go and things to kill. I'm in a bit of a rush. These two bosses are almost dead. Just one teeny little arrow each will do it. And I'm SURE that I can take the reflect damage from just two teeny little arrows."

And so, even as my subconscious mind was screaming out "Are you MAD?", my index finger just developed a mind of its own. I looked down aghast as it moved of its own accord, pressing down on the LMB gently for just one little click. Which resulted in a not entirely unexpected Volley and, well, at least I got quite a bit of XP by clicking furiously on my tombstone when I got back.

So, from now on, every time I run down into Old Eleusis, I will intone "Don't be a CLOT."

    2. Sometimes, it PAYS to be a clot.

Earlier this evening, this same Bone Charmer, now suitably chastened with a large ugly "1" in the deaths column, makes her way into the Pythian Caves and the much-awaited Gorgon Queens X9. Much-awaited because, of course, the allure of +2 skills SBC awaits, along with a very good chance to get Teucer's Warbow. I'm expecting to farm a good long while to get these two items but, happily, the Cuffs pop out after half a dozen or so runs. I have no more caravan space and don't have a nice charm to put in them yet, so I leave them in my inventory until such time as I get my third Herakles' Might. And, with that, I head off to supper.

Upon my return, I load up for another run, pick up some random yellow loot, head back to Delphi and just click madly on things to insta-sell them. I exit the game to reload for another run, and then suddenly an ominous feeling strikes me. I open my toon's inventory, now bare but for a few potions, and I ask myself the rhetorical question "Didn't I have something in here before supper, something that I wanted to socket a bit later?" Yes, Clot-head had just sold his Epic SBC.

About forty further runs coughed up Teucers. But no Cuffs. How could I have been so dumb? As frustrated as could be, I was about to exit the session in disgust. And then, as I always do, I thought to myself "Hang on, what if those Cuffs will drop on the very next run?" And so, as I always do, I went off for one last run.

Of course, it never works. The last run always coughs up junk. But this time - it did work! There, amongst the yellow junk, the glorious green Stonebinder's Cuffs. Not much by way of bonuses, just some Cold resistance and Int. But the +2 will do very nicely. And they're better than the one I sold, which just had some extra armour and energy. There was also a green Gorgon helm, which I picked up not expecting much. Lo and behold, a Hallowed of Stability! So not only do I get the usual +1 all skills and health regen, but also some stun resistance and more health regen for +3.0 total. A very nice upgrade for my plain old Hallowed that I'd picked up back in A4N.

So I stroll on over to the Majestic Chest. And what should pop out but Hunter's Greaves. Again, a nice upgrade on my existing boots.

If I hadn't sold the original SBC in a moment of brain-deadness, I'd have left Pythian Caves when I got the Teucer's. So being a clot resulted in me pig-headedly insisting on that one final run which produced not only the Cuffs, but two other nice keepers as well.

So, if ever you're a clot, look on the bright side. It might just work out for the best after all.

Nice, i like it when people have a way with words. I can actually relate, too, having just looted everything else off of epic Talos except Blessing of the Gods, which i was just about to pick up as i was distracted by a few remaining automatons.

Instantly forgetting i saw the amulet amongst the yellow junk, i quit the game for another run. I have two other characters in epic just screaming for that amulet...

    Pissed? Yes.

Yeah that's the spirit. With the holidays and all I hadn't thought to check general interest in something like this. We might as well just post our entries in this thread.

    Off to sticky!

Well, well, running the Act II tombs in Epic with my Guardian tonight in search of Revenant gear, brain in neutral, and look what the cat drags in:

Heh, thousands upon thousands of hours playing and this is only the second time I've met him outside SP. Needless to say, with no prior warning, I died rather quickly. I don't think Battering him instinctively as he rushed me was a good idea either.

I'd have been well cheesed off if this was a hardcore toon. Luckily, he died a couple of times in Normal, so I didn't mind losing one to ole Toxy. I've given him enough grief in SP, he can have this one.

Of course, I died to him again getting the screenshot, but that's a given. Still, it was worth recording for posterity.

I've never met Toxeus outside SP, but is he toned down in the Passage? Because almost every untwinked toon of mine gets spanked by him there, i dread the day he finds one of my 0-death-challengers outside SP if he's any tougher outside his little cage. Twinkers have no problem.

At any rate, reading these boards always made me think Talos wasn't worth farming, so instead of one-passing him i decided to donate an hour or two of my time sightseeing the Legendary lands and gave him a first "farming spree" ever, and he coughs up Archmages Clasp on the second run. This more than makes up for the lost Blessing of the Gods.
