    The Rules

Since the old set of forum rules disappeared with the News & Feedback purge, the administration/moderation staff has devised a new (and shorter) set of community rules. They are as follows:

    1. Do not use profanity or vulgar speech.

    2. Do not make bigoted, hateful, or racially insensitive statements.

    3. Do not defame, abuse, stalk, harass, or threaten others.

    4. Do not advocate illegal activities or discuss them with intent to commit them.

    5. Do not post any content that infringes and/or violates any patent, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary right of any third party.

    6. Respect the moderating decisions of the forum staff. If you disagree with a decision, send a pm to a mod/admin about it.

    7. Remember that the Titan Quest Forums is a PG-13 establishment.

    8. Use your common sense when posting.

    ---

As always, if someone is making a rules breach, be sure to report their post and move on. Don't quote it and don't reply to it; simply report and go on. This makes things easier on the staff when it comes to dealing with troublesome posts, and it also keeps threads from devolving.

    Thank you,
    - The Staff

I will unlock this post and see what we get.
Should we adhere to these rules or not?

    Especially No.7

I think I should start a poll. Simple yet effective. Yes or No.

Your chance to give us moderators an idea as to what we should do.
How do YOU want us to run this forum?

First thing, shall I make a poll? Or do we like the rules posted above?

I think the basic premise of any set of rules is to make things fair and safe for all involved. I personally can't stand profanity in posts on these boards, or heated arguments (and I've seen threads that were very heated which included prominent members of these boards, which not only brought embarrassment to those involved but to the entire forums). I mean, we're all here to discuss a game. Off-Topic goes in a different direction, obviously, but I think rules should apply there as well. I'd rather have these boards adhere to Rule 7's "PG-13" dictum than to be too lax. All it takes is one or two members with too much time on their hands and too little intelligence and tact to start things snowballing in a very bad direction. And this isn't censorship. I'm dead-set against censorship of any kind. However, I'm all for rules to make these boards respectable and a safe haven for fans of this game, no matter their ages. In a nutshell, it's fine to speak one's mind, but with that freedom also comes responsibility, and that means people don't have the right to infringe upon the rights of others, according to the rules above.

In short, I like the rules, but I'd be interested in seeing what a poll might show us. After all, this is truly a global community and people will have differing points-of-view.

Being a mod on another forum myself, I also see the need of a basic set of rules, just to keep it civilized and enjoyable for everyone who participates.
About the PG-13 thing - I'm just not sure what that means in particular, so since I just don't know the specifics about "PG-whatever", I might violate that rule without even knowing it. The perspective on what is "age appropriate" just really differs depending on the country you live in, especially concerning "profanity". I see no problem in using some swear words now and then, as long as they're not directed at other users. So, cussing - OK, insulting others - unacceptable, from my point of view.
As to possibele other aspects of that rule, I, for instance, don't see why anyone would even consider to post pictures of primary sex characteristics in this kind of forum - there's just no point. So why even make a fuss about it?
