    Newb skinner.

So, this is my first time skinning anything in TQ, though I have created skins for my own mods and games. BUT I want to know how this is, for a first draft skin made by hand.

I was actually just messing around to see if I could do it, but now that I see it's fairly simple, I'm gonna start working on some crazy stuff.

Let me know what you think. I know it's pretty lousy, but I'm gonna add more detail later.

PS: I wish the skins would have larger texture sizes. lol 512 really cramps all the details and makes them look like crap ingame.

It's hard to say what it looks like since I don't know what your original intent was to make the skin look like.
So you didn't use any of the original texture to manipulate to your needs? if so that's pretty impressive!
His face looks like the special face from warhammer online for chaos. that's supposed to be a compliment, but if its not what you intended then i'm sorry if I offended. O.o

His face... hm. Let me show you what I was drew. I'm not sure what a special face is, but my inspiration was from warhammer's chaos and from the introduction video to Sacred2. Dunno if you've seen it...

The only texture I used was the original skin from TQ, so really, no. Yes, it is a bit stretched out because the image was originally something like 100x 100... kinda hard to see much detail from that.

And for the record, it's pretty hard to offend me. So critique away!

Now understand that I have no idea what you wanted your skin to look like as I don't know the Warhammer setting, or the Sacred 2 video... but here goes ...

Ok - I'm guessing the mouth and eyes are supposed to be stitched shut? If So, that is recognizable... now it could be your picture and without testing the skin I have no way to know for sure, but his face looks like he has a very bad five o'clock shadow... lighten it up maybe? Try looking at some of voodooboi's spartan tunic - I think they have facial hair... if not some of the other male skins do... as well, maybe provide a bit more definition for jawbones, cheekbones, etc something to give the face more shape. I have no problem with the clothes. Oh, and his ear looks kind of funny in your screenshots as well - like it is an empty space...

I didn't realize the ear was part of the model already, I tried to give him a.... "van gogh" style ear if you know what I mean. (sliced off and sewn over.) I think I'll change it back.

As for the warhammer and sacred 2, yeah basically, his eyes and mouth are sewn shut. His five o clock shadow was my lazy attempt to craft a beard by hand... i just used a burn tool on his face haha. I'll see if I can do something about that.

His clothes... I tried to get some kind of leather armor over some sort of chainmail look, I dunno if that's what it looks like though.

unfortunately your details are too small and too good to really show up in such a texture. i noticed i had to dumb down my detailing and almost always high contrast things to make them show the little detail that was there better.

Yeah i love the warhammer universe I've been playing the table top for over 10 years now and the special head from the online game looks like this.

    it's defiantly alike to yours

I can tell that it is supposed to be chain, but its certainly hard to read with the advanced effects video option on. like you said 512 cramps the details and if it looks nice at 200-300% it probably looks like crap at 100. I try to suppress the urge to zoom on these (my basic instinct as a graphic designer). It boggles the mind, but if you can barely tell what it is due to pixelation at 200-300% then it probably looks great on the model. lol (these have been my findings anyhow)

Well keep up the good work. I'm sure you'll get your bearing quickly and get the skins looking the exact way you want in no time.

    Re: Newb skinner.

Forgot to reply to this... heh. Anyway, I have an update as well, so might as well post now.

Warhammer guy: yeah, that's kinda what I was going for. Table top is too expensive of a hobby for me sadly

all settings turned up, here is the newest version.

Now, I know this is a very minute detail but it's been bugging me. There is a spot I've been trying to get a belt on on the inside of his calf, but it refuses to go there and I can't figure out where on the map to put it... aggravating! I think I'll pass, it's not like anyone's gonna look between his legs right?

I think I like how the newest version of his chainmail came out, the leather may need some more work, but I have another concern now, besides the silly belt. Bump maps! Any ideas? The original bump with the sandals is on my guy and it bugs me.

    Re: Newb skinner.

    hello again.

Yes it does look like it coming along very nicely.

As far as bump maps, I had some of the same questions in a previous post. All the info you should need to get your own BMP working should be in there. Lufe gives the link to the BMPs and a gimp program that makes the normals maps.

    http://www.titanquest.net/forums/ski...ns-made-3.html

Also if you have Photoshop and a Nvidia card you can you Nvidia's photoshop plugin for normal maps.http://developer.nvidia.com/object/p...s_plugins.html which is what I ended up using because gimp drives me crazy sometimes.

Ok, so I've got this NVidia plug in, and I've tested it out, and I've got my bump map.... now how do I get that on the character?

I tried what lufe says in that thread you posted, but for some reason my character just gets really glossy, instead of having a bump map.
