    [Earth] Heat Shield

Currently 15% physical res with one skill point.

Make it scale from 3 to 15%, ultimate at 20%.

But it needs something more, just compare it to Trance of Convalesncence, 15% damage absorption, plus mana- and health regeneration.

I suggest fire retaliation, 10/75/100, has to be tested, then also reduce the cooldown, it's currently 90 seconds. Drop it maybe to 60 seconds.

Maybe add flat defensive ability bonus there, 10/50/75.

Is it possible to make skills like this boosted by intelligence(assuming it isn't)? Especially regarding the cooldown rate, even the max level's fire absorb isn't going to do much for you in legendary other than block a single errant staff attack from a random normal enemy. Better yet would be an Energy Shield sort of effect where it drains your energy depending on the amount absorbed, with each level giving a percentage of fire damage blocked instead of a direct amount, but that probably isn't possible either.

Another option might be to make it so that it doesn't end after taking the listed damage, and has a constant energy-per-second cost, instead of the single cast.

I'm in favor of making it an aura - where the %damage scales according to level as Poinas suggests, as well as being permanent. It's probably still not as good as ToC, but it allows for an enormous absorption of fire damage and, unlike ToC, it's an extra aura (ToC has the disadvantage of ruling out the other Trances). Perhaps a fire retaliation can still be added, it makes sense. This could make the skill on par with ToC.

I agree it makes sense for this skill to be an aura.

Why not have it grant a small, non-depleting amount of fire absorb? So instead of 100% absorb up to the strength of the shield, it could grant something from 20% - 50% fire absorb, depending on the skill level. It would be a shield that doesn't get "used up" from damage, just constant protection. That way, it provides a benefit throughout the game, and continues to provide the Earth Mage with the protection against fire that the designers intended.

You couldn't get immunity to fire this way, if calculations work how I think.

    For example, if a target attacks you with a fire attack that does 1000 damage, and you have 80 resists and fire shield at 50% absorb you'd take 1000 * (1 - 0.8) * (1 - 0.5) = 100 damage.

As an Earth Mage, you should have some added protection from fire!

I'm not quite sure, if that would be possible to do...adding a constant relative malus to incoming firedamage, that is. But I'm not the one to turn to concerning such in-depth questions.

I do like the idea, though!
