    Loving Dream mastery!

I only recently bought the expansion, and I finally got around to making a character that uses the Dream mastery. So far, I've been going the melee route, and it's been a blast!

The problem is, I'm having trouble choosing a second mastery, and the level where I have to choose is coming up rapidly. Of course, if I make a choice I don't like, I can always throw it away and make a new character, but I thought I would pick the brains of this board.

    The secondaries I've been considering:

    • Nature
The upside is that I'm quite familiar with the Nature tree from my soothsayer and champion. The downside is that I already have a melee character with wolves following him around (the champion). The wolves will undoubtedly die a lot during boss fights, but since I'll be capable of standing toe-to-toe with bosses myself, this isn't as much of an issue as it has been with other pet classes I've tried.
    • Earth
The upside is that I'm not as familiar with the earth tree, and some of the magical attacks look like a lot of fun, and there's even a talent I can use with my melee attacks. The downside is that the pet wouldn't be all that useful. Since I'll be able to tank myself, I'm guessing that a tank pet with low damage output wouldn't be as useful to me as it would be if I were a caster.
    • Spirit
Deathchill aura would be great for dealing with large groups of trash mobs, and the liche king would make boss fights go faster. Outsider would help with burst damage both for large groups of trash mobs and with boss fights.
    • Dream
I have yet to make a character that sticks to one and only one mastery.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? I'm kinda leaning towards ritualist (nature) or diviner (spirit) at this point, but I'm still open to suggestions.

    Re: Loving Dream mastery!

I have been loving the Dream based builds since i got my hands on the exp pack.

First thing i tried was Dream & Spirt, but kept dying a lot, so binned that and went for Dream & Warfare which totally rocks but as you have a melee my newest is earth & dream and its also alot of fun with 2 pets causing mayhem and me sitting safely back nuking everything from a distance

Think my next might have to be a Nature/Dream build just for a laugh.

    With a spear?

Yeah, I have thought about it, but the truth is I like pets.

Evoker should be a lot of fun. Trust me, he wouldn't be such a great tank, not late game anyway. Tanks are usually to do with Defence mastery. So Core Dweller is a perfectly suitable pet for this class.

If he doesn't tank and his damage output is crap, what's the lumbering lug good for then?

I have found the Core Dweller to be a most useful tanking pet so far (lv20) especially with ToC and his own HP regen, and with nightmare running around causing chaos too works well. The pet isn't designed for dmg but is designed to be ran in take agro while you stand back and blast em into oblivion most satisfying

Have been enjoying the difference of the casting evoker to the melee harbinger, its definitely got some good potential for overall destruction, when i have finished levelling my Harbi gonna see how well by running my evo through till legendary.

So far though the hardest level for my harbi had been normal, with about 7 deaths up to typhoon, typhoon taking me 4x until i found the way to kill him, and 1 death in IT exp. Running through epic has been easier, 2 deaths up to typhoon and 0 on epic typhoon, but 1 death in the expansion so far.

Yeah, Core Dweller is very good at what he (or she in some cases) does. If you cast Heat Shield on him then he can last even longer. The only enemies who I noticed kill him fast are onslaught types and spear melinoe.

PS: ZenTsu, it's actually Typhon, not Typhoon.

Again: isn't having a pet that performs that role pretty redundant if I'm going melee instead of caster?

Anyway, I ended up going diviner (spirit), and I'm loving it!

I'll give earth-dream a try later. Maybe it would be better if I went caster rather than melee for that.

    Re: Loving Dream mastery!

I had the same problem -> I stuck with dream only and got some 32 spare skillpoints and then picked defence in act 4 normal.

To be honest that helped a lot because my hitpoint went up tremendously.

If you're going the melee route I would pick a melee mastery (warfare, defence, hunting or rogue)..
Golem (Slayer);Flowdleg (Templar [formar Seer]); Berserko (Spellbreaker)
