    Caster ritualist Clarifications

    I have been looking over the forums for a while now and would like to clarify things and run over my build idea


    I wanted to try to get a good dream caster/melee using distort reality and distortion wave, this char will be untwinked
    the melee is for a backup b/c distort reality and distortion wave have some recharge, refresh helps but it has more recharge

    so to start out with these are dependent on strenght and enhanced damage percentages right? I read that they were, but this was one of the much earlier dream posts and it may have been changed.

    so to me this seems fine on paper, but I dont know how well it will do in actuality

    it looks like it has
    28% ED from lucid dream and then 68% ED from strength of the pack

    it give enemies
    -32% res from TOW and -39% from plague
    the eburn doesn't seem that great but it would be

    +45% and a -39% nme res froim plage and -32% nme res from TOW

    so this seems good to me, but I would like some feedback

    id put some points in tranquility of water and permanence of stone ,

    your dream loos good , but put a point in psionic touch , for extra damage with your staff .

    You really should max the Nature mastery...

    Be adviced that the reductions from ToW and Plague are different. ToW reduces all enemy resists, unless they are at 0. Plague only reduces Damage and Elemental Damage.

    It's a bit hard to explain, but there is a sticky called Game Mechanics in the spoilers section that has very nice info on this...

    if i take nighmare down to level I can max tranquility and permanence

    why max I'm running out of skills, i can max nature mastery with the bonus skills tho,

    i think that plague would work fine, tow seems to be conviction+holyshock, which is nice, but they both seems to work to me, they both would increase the damage DR and DW do, both elemental and raw damage, i might be totally wrong, and I have to go to school now, thank you for posting

    makes sense, I've played diablo 2 for much too long well ty for the help, its very useful.

    i forgot something, in response to the staff post i was planning on boosting str to help my spells, and use sword/shield, but psionic touch wouldn't be bad, I hadn't thought of it i would prefer PT over PS b/c of cooldown it seems that PS better overall, well thank everyone for all the nifty information. I'll post when the char gets to a higher level (probably tomorrow after school)

    str won't help your spells, it only helps your weapon damage (as long as that is physical damage), int otoh helps both your weapon damage and spell damage (as long as it is some kind of elemental damage).

    So additional str will NOT increase the damage of Distort Reality or Distortion Wave (and int obviously won't either).

    ah, I was under the impression that it was boosted by damage% and by str, but that was from a much earlier thread. so now I'm just confused

    mamba, in a post by you you wrote

    Same as Distort Reality, when the damge is 'Damage' (no prefix) it gets boosted by strength, not int. Electrical burn damage gets bosted by int tho (Vitality damage by neither, this should cover your damage types for Dream).

    That post is 10 months old, we learned a few things about the game mechanics in the meantime

    Back then everyone believed that just like int boosts elemental skills, str boosts physical skills, this is not true however. I do not have a link for this, but there was a thread a few months ago (by then IT was out and I played a melee Evoker who wanted to make use of that fact) which first mentioned this.

    I experimented with my Evoker based on that thread, and whether I had 200 str or 2000 (thanks to the defiler) didn't result in a different damage from Distortion Wave or Volcanic Orb, so str definitely does not boost skill damage.

    yeh, I thought it might have changed by now
    all in all tho I'm saddened, I may have to build something else, or try alot harder on this

    changed my avatar(its offtopic I know)

    so I'm completely changing this... I guess i'll probably change threads too (don't want to get in trouble)
