I'm new and i have TQ + Expansion. Now i wanna use this skins for dummies.
I copied al files to the correct directory and start the game. But when i create a new character i don't see any other skins. How can i use another skin, do i first need to rename some files ? Or can i find it in the game ?

You just need to dye your character's tunic to the corresponding colour. You can tell what colour you need for what skin by looking at the picture in the first post -- it should tell you.

EDIT: IE, Rose for the skin with the white stockings for a girl, purple for the purple chick...same with the male skins. Use whatever colour's under the picture you want to look like.

You CAN also change the name on the skin you want to reflect whatever colour your tunic already is. But if the character you load up doesn't already look like -one- of the skins on the pack (corresponding to whatever tunic colour they're currently wearing), then you don't have the files in the right place.

Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

Can someone give me a good reference to go install skins? I have tried the method of using arc explorer and tex viewer and made the .bat files and I seen the scripts run, but when I started the game, nothing changed, any advice as to what I am doing wrong?
I have spent the last two days reading post and yes I tried to use the TQMM, but I get a runtime error code of runtime error '5 invalid code or procedure. It worked for titan quest, but not Immortal throne. any ideas why

Thanks in advance for your help on what probably is a very newbie question that!

You need to be specific. Post the following:

Your installation directories (such as C:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest, C:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest Immortal Throne).

The contents of your batch file.

The name of the .tex file you're trying to change.

You say you tried TQMM. Again, be specific. Which tqm file?

You do know that you still put the files in the TITAN QUEST archive even though you're using TQIT?

Question Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

    Thanks I_Raps,

    **Here is my information.**
    **Directory**
    I:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\pc\female

    **Batch file information**

    texturecompiler "pc\female\femalepc01_grey.tga" "pc\female\femalepc01_grey.tex" -format .dxt5
    texturecompiler "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tga" "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tex" -format .dxt5

    **I then tried**
    texturecompiler "pc\female\femalepc01_grey.tga" "pc\female\femalepc01_grey.tex" -format .dxt2
    texturecompiler "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tga" "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tex" -format .dxt2

**My tex to game batch files**
    archivetool "i:\program files\thq\titan quest\resources\creatures.arc" -replace "pc\female\femalepc01_grey.tex" "i:\program files\thq\titan quest\resources\"
    archivetool "i:\program files\thq\titan quest\resources\creatures.arc" -replace "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tex" "i:\program files\thq\titan quest\resources\"

**Tex file I tried changing were**
    femalepc01_white.tex
    femalepc01_grey.tex

Yes I do know that I have to use the THQ folder in my I:\

I tried checking if it took in TQ and TQ IT and nothing showed.

Question. When I start a new character, will I see the change immediately with the character standing on the podium or wili I have to go inside and buy the corresponding dye for it to take effect? I was looking for it to be immediate like is was when my TQMM was working.

    ***************************************
Okay for the TQMM Error, Here is what I am using and doing with it.

    TQMM ver 1.0.0.0 dated 11/4/2007

    Downloaded the TQMM.zip
    Unzipped it

In the C:\downloads\TQMM Folder in have
    TQMM.dll
    TQMM.exe
    TQMM.txt

    Downloaded the Dodss Ebony.zip file
Unzipped it to the C:\Downloads\TQMM folder which added the
    Dodss Ebony.tqm

    so now I have the

    TQMM.dll
    TQMM.exe
    TQMM.txt
Dodss Ebony.TQM files in one folder.

    Copied the entire folder to
    I:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\TQMM

I double clicked on the TQMM Red icon and I get this:

    runtime error '5
    invalid procedure call or argument

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance
    James

Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

First, on your Texturecompiler batches, I've only used "dxt5" etc. with no period (not ".dxt5").
Can you open your textures with TextureViewer? ... and does it show the correct properties?

Second, archivetool is kind of kinky in how it wants its files presented.

Here is Shark's old Ultimate Replacer. I've never had any trouble with this.

    @echo off

    echo !-------------------------------------------------!
echo !Welcome to Sharks Ultimate Replacer 2.0 !
    echo !-------------------------------------------------!

    echo -------------------------------------------------
echo Please stand back, or you might get hurt!
    echo -------------------------------------------------

    md .\pc\female

    copy /Y femalepc01_white.tex .\pc\female
    copy /Y femalepcskirt01bmp.tex .\pc\female

    archivetool "resources\creatures.arc" -replace "pc\female\femalepc01_white.tex" "resources\"
    archivetool "resources\creatures.arc" -replace "pc\female\femalepcskirt01bmp.tex" "resources\"

    echo -------------------------------------------------
    echo Work finished!
    echo -------------------------------------------------
echo Application should now be closed.
    echo -------------------------------------------------
    pause

Note that the file you're archiving needs to be in folders with the same name and structure they will have in the archive; this routine does that (put your tex in I:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest along with Shark's batch). Note that it never references the Drive Letter - it just uses the current directory, so your installation shouldn't matter. This all assumes you have the file
    I:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\Resources\Creatures.arc.

Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

As for TQMM, all I've ever had is Beta 9 (08-15-2006) from this site: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/tqmm/

I don't know where you got a more recent version, but if you can't get it to work, you can try the older version, ask for support wherever you downloaded 1.0.0.0, or just jettison it and go with batch files (based on the Shark's Ultimate Replacer model above).

Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

As for seeing your changes, yes you should see the new skin on the loading screen if all went right AND you're wearing the proper color tunic.

In fact, all you have to do is put your tex (with the proper filename) in a directory I:\Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\Database\creatures\pc\female and you will be able to see the changes; in even deeper fact, you can alt-tab out to the desktop, put a DIFFERENT tex in the directory with the same name (replacing the one that's there, of course) and return to the game and see the change immediately.

That's what THIS thread - SKINS FOR DUMMIES - is all about.

Re: Skins for Dummies / Simple way to use skins for online game

Okay, I copy your files and made the bach file.
I then went into the THQ folder and placed the batch file there along with the femalepcskirt01.bmp and the femalepc01_white.txt file. It actually is an all black skin so I would know the difference.
I ran the script and it indicated everything was fine, but when I went in to the game and made a new character and selected the white tunic, I saw no change. She still had a white tunic on.
is there something that is possibly keeping this from working? I there some basic checks I can make? I have created so many different folders in the THQ directory, is it possible that so of them are canceling the others out?
