What triggers Storm Surge?

All,

I'm wondering what kind of effects trigger Storm Surge. My search-Fu is weak, so I'm asking here.

Based on "each enemy hit" I'm assuming melee attacks trigger it. However, I'm also wondering:

1) Do Staff Attacks trigger it? If so, what about Ternion?

2) Will Bleeding or Piercing side effects, such as Shrapnel (Rogue) trigger it?

3) Will Physical Damage side effects trigger it? I'm thinking about Fragmentation (Earth) here.

4) Will Vitality Damage Trigger it, such as that from Life Drain (Spirit)?

5) Does spell damage trigger it? In other words, could Chain Lightning trigger it?

6) What about point blank melee auras such as Trance of Wrath's Electric Burn Damage?

Yes, when THEY hit YOU, not when you make attacks. It's a skill that's handy for melee characters, i.e. where you know you will be hit. As a caster you don't want to be hit as many times as to make it proc often.

My melee elementalist has it, and it's my favourite skill combination together with Stone Form and Static Charge. 6 seconds (8 with synergy) where they just hurt themselves and not you.
