To get one you need to farm farm FARM the crap outta legendary. An excellent shield to accompany your spike would be a soldiers unyeilding will or a green stygian shield (yes both of them are green). I have a brigand that does 61K DPS with this setup. BEAT THAT!!!!
Actually, I was a little bored today so I started a little investigation on the possibility of legally (as far as the items itself, not the way I got them eventually) getting 61k DPS. The outcome was rather shocking.

At first I started with the Brigand and the Khthonian spike, as they were used by your character apparantly. I used the MI shop mod to get a Ferocious Khthonian Spike of Havoc and cheated myself to a level 75 character with the bonus skill and stat points that you normally get (+21 to skill points and +18 to stat points) and I completed the Hades' Generals quests that give you three times +5% total damage.
The stats of my Ferocious Khthonian Spike of Havoc are:
    236-254 Damage
    30% Piercing
    Speed: Very Slow

5.0% chance to deal +116% damage
    +53% Damage
    +43% Damage
5.0% Chance of 3 seconds of Stun
    +179 Offensive Ability

With Incarnation of the Valor of Achilles:
    25 damage
    +18% Attack Speed
    Completion Bonus:
    +35% Attack Speed

Because I couldn't buy a better shield than a Herculean Outrider's Buckler of the Winds (I don't know if there are MI shields that have better damage dealing ability than this one)
The stats of my Herculean Outrider's Buckler of the Winds are:

7% Chane of 102% Damage Reduction
    28% Pierce Resistance
    +33% Damage
    +6 Strength
    +10% Strength
    +8 Dexterity
    +5% Dexterity
    +25% Attack Speed

With Incarnation of the Shade of Hector:
    +180 Defensive Ability
    +9% Chance to Avoid Projectiles
    Completion Bonus:
    +26 Strength

Furthermore, To get my +4 to all skills, I got myself a Stately Revenant Crown of Supremacy.
The stats of my Stately Revenant Crown of Supremacy are:

    +20% Strength
    +9% Intelligence
    +19% Dexterity
    +75 Defensive Ability
    +2 to all Skills

Imbued with a Legendary Shard of Erebus:

    20% Vitality Damage Resistance
    Completion Bonus:
    +2 to all Skills

I used two Apollo's Will as rings. Both their stats are:

    34% Pierce Resistance
    33% Fire Resistance
    55% Poison Resistance
    +118% Pierce Damage
    +46 Dexterity
    +110 Health
    +55% Increase in Projectile Speed
    +1 to Volley
+1 to Art of the Hunt

They were way better in damage dealing than the Hale rings of the Owl were.

Furthermore, I chose the Juggernaut's Ismene's Cuirass of the Glade because of the extra pierce damage that is built in. It's stats are:

    89% Pierce Resistance
    12% Elemental Resistance
    35% Stun Resistance
    +28% Damage
    +45% Pierce Damage
    +25% Pierce Damage
    +1.0 Health Regeneration per second
    +50% Health Regeneration
    +8% Chance to Avoid Projectiles
    +35% Less Damage from Beasts

Enchanted with an Incarnation of Herakles' Might:
    +36 Strength
    Completion Bonus:
    +25% Damage

I used a pair of Hale Sentinel's Armbands of the Glade to try to deal some more damage. It's stats are:

    +45% Pierce Damage
    +25% Pierce Damage
    +22% Strength
    +10% Health
    +56% Health Regeneration
    +8% Chance to Avoid Projectiles
    +35% Less Damage from Beasts
+3 to all Skills in Hunting Mastery

Enchanted with an Incarnation of Herakles' Might:
    +36 Strength
    Completion Bonus:
    +25% Damage

I used a Pendant of Immortal Rage as amulet. It's stats are:

    45% Pierce Resistance
    41-49 Damage
    +69% Damage
    +51 Strength
    +105 Offensive Ability
    +27% Attack Speed

Because I needed some more Attack Speed, I found a nice pair of Hale Prowler's Legguards of the Hunt. It's stats are:

    +31% Pierce Damage
    +22% Strength
    +9% Health
    +23% Attack Speed
    +12% Movement
    7% Chance to Dodge Attacks

Enchanted with an Incarnation of Herakles' Might:
    +36 Strength
    Completion Bonus:
    +25% Damage

The artifact I have equipped is the Symbol of the Polymath. It gives the wearer:

    +15% Damage
    +15% Elemental Damage
    +15% Strength
    +15% Intelligence
    +15% Dexterity
    +15% Total Speed

    Completion Bonus:
    18% Elemental Resistance

That's all the equipment I have, resulting in the following character sheet when using all permanent effects (both active and passive skills) and NO temporarily effects or skills except the Herbal Remedy Skill, because it's duration is 12 minutes and thus it's nearly just as good as a permanent effect. On Legendary:

    Health: 4301
Energy: 400 (put 4 stat points in it) of which 235 Reserved

    Strength: 1479
    Intelligence: 84
    Dexterity: 817

    -4% Fire Resistance
    -70% Cold Resistance
    -70% Lightning Resistance
    80% Poison Resistance
    80% Pierce Resistance
    0% Bleeding Resistance
    20% Vitality Damage Resistance
    0% Life Leech Resistance
    0% Energy Resistance
    35% Stun Resistance
    0% Skill Disruption Protection
7% Chance to Dodge Attacks (Equipment)
60% Chance to Avoid Projectiles (+25% from Equipment and +35% from Skills)

    Average Damage: 30813
    Attack Speed: 198%
    Damage Per Second (DPS): 61139

    Armor: 1697
Shield Block: 39% Chance to Block 500 Damage

    Health Regeneration: 21.42
    Energy Regeneration: 1.84

    Offensive Ability: 1101
    Defensive Ability: 1608

    Cast Speed: 115%
    Run Speed: 160%

    Conclusion:

I did not believe I would get there, but it seems to be possible with legal items.
I would like to know what the average farming time for these items would be, assuming you would get these stats which are very good for most of the items (it took me some time in the vault to get these items).
I think because the chance is so very very very small to get these items that I have yet busted a myth.

Just FYI, not ALL shopMI gear is legit. Some of them carry affixes they shouldn't have. (See bramblewoods of the betrayer for example.)

    Thanks
I tried the character and I died 4 times or so in an hour :P so the defenses on legendary are really crap.
As far as the equipment, I forgot to mention that EDTAkiller said in a post that his spear had 22% Attack Damage Converted to Health which I do not have. I would have to take a Ferocious Khthonian Spike of Devouring instead of the one I used, which would have resulted in doing a lot less damage.
He also had 1500 offensive and 2800 defensive ability. Compared to my 1101 offensive and 1608 defensive that is a lot of difference. So if you take that into account as well, it's even more rediculous to get 61k DPS.

build looks realy damage centered. can be a good thing, but i always like to keeps some survivability on my chars.
dieing 4 times in an hour in not something to be proud of with 60k dps.

as far an uniquevsrare, i think it depends on how u use them. every build has other 'strongest' items, so there is no real competition cause u cant realy compare them.

in making a good char you always have to take a few things in mind: max damage, DPS, spell-power, ranged / mellee, hp, defence, energy, regen. just to name a few. best item is based on all of those and you just cant get them all.

@ EDTAkiller: nice to know unique dont work for u, just dont project that on the rest of us please.

Until proven otherwise, I assume you have the cognitive abilities of a bottle of ketchup.

When I started TQ I tried to deal as much damage as possible, ignoring resistances and the like. I soon found myself dying easily to just ordinary mobs. After that I made my characters more balanced. The only thing is that the secondary resistances are hard to get, especially when you have a character with -100% recharge. The good thing is that I use ToC and Colossus Form which give me respectively +20% and +66% Damage Absorbtion.

The character I created that does 61k DPS is just something I built to try to find out if it actually is possible to get that 61k DPS as EDTAkiller claims. It proved to be a cheated character.

You mean ridiculous ? I am not so sure. You ASSUME that the gear you chose is optimal. Im not questioning your knoweldge of the game (it certainly is bettter than mine) but i think that your methodology is wrong. It would really require some brainstorming to chose equipemnt giving the highest possible effect DPS-wise.

I agree of curse that raising DPS to highest levels possible at the cost of survivability is not the smartest thing to do. Dead chharacters cannot deal damage after all.

there is no better gear to deal damage with if you want to play with legal equipment. I just chose the equipment that had built in damage and then made sure they did even more damage. (like the juggernaut's ismene's cuirass of the glade. There is no better damage dealing armor for a brigand. It's not about brainstorming. It's about knowing the epic and legendary armor and also the monster infrequents. The MI are just the best equipment because they allow prefixes and suffixes as well as incarnation/charms in them.
