People are touting PCI-e as the next big thing. But you need a motherboard that will take it.
Acer Aspire M7200 - AMD Quad Core 2.55, 8gb RAM, XFX HD7770 Black DD, 640gb HDD, Win7 64bit.

Well I just upgraded from a Radeon 9800 pro on AGP to an nVidia 7600GT and the difference in Titan Quest was amazing! But that's a much older chipset so I guess it's to be expected.
Put it this way, if you ever plan to go SLI you'll need a PCIx card, but as Batman says, you'll need a new motherboard for PCIx, so it's not really a cheap upgrade alternative.
That said though, looking at the prices of newer chipset AGP cards, that mightn't hold true for much longer!

I've got PCI/SLI on my PC and belive me, it was expensive! The processer that I use was around 600 and the motherboard was 300-400. Plus the cost of dual videocards.
