    Game not optimized for NVIDIA

O right, i've bought the game today from store. I have a Geforce 6600 GTF from Gigabyte. I have 1 GB DDRAM 3200 from PQI Extreme Edition and a P4 3.0E GHz.

I am kind of happy with my PC cause it's pretty good for latest games. So i installed the game , all run smootly. Now when i got in the game i set the resolution to 1024x768 and all details on high, without AA and VS.

Well i created a character and got to play. When I reached Helos and walked a bit in the city my framerate dropped like hell (10 fps with Fraps). Same thing happened when I reached the area where i needed to kill a Satyr Shaman for the first main quest. What is the matter with this game?
The game reaches to be unplayable on such a video card. It's a real mess. I don't want to buy another card cause this is very good (in F.E.A.R. i never met such framedrops with all details on maximum) and let's be serious this game doesn't have that graphic.

So developers fix your game, cause it's too lame.
The gameplay is good but the performance really sucks.

And by the way, a friend of mine tested the game on an ATI x700pro(far more weak than my video card) and in the same situations as mine the framerate never dropped. And you say in your logo's "NVIDIA , ... meant to be played". Be serious, revise your sponsors.

It seems there are issues with specificaly the 6600 (and since demo). I was hoping they could fix this for retail but they don't seem to have figured out the cause yet. I'd think it's a bad support in the card for one of the DirectX 9.0c features used in the game.

Thing is with the demo, people with 6400 and lesser computers had the game run better than people with 6600 and better computers

Edit: Best thing to do would to get your exact specs, logs from DirectX and so on and send them to support for them to figure the issue out, and fix it with the first patch (guys at Iron Lore said they will be on alert just after release to get all those bugs and get them fixed asap, with a first patch in less than 2 months)

Keep in mind, it is tough to get any pc game to work with all the possible hardware configurations that are out there right out of the box. But do as Gorkk said and I am sure IL will get it resolved as quickly as they can.
Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

I ran the game without fraps and with fraps and same thing

A friend of mine wants to buy the game(he has a FX5200) but the only way that the game could run on his computer is to disable shadows which is not possible

    ok, thanks for the idea.

I hate to say it, but 1 gig of ram really is not going to cut it with a 6600. Also to note, is that you can not generalize that the game is 'not optimized for NVIDIA' because you own an older card.

The 6600 series has a problem with texture memory, and tends to try to share it with the system, regardless of its onboard memory. As such, the newest drivers help this problem, but does not cure it.

The probable solution is to find out if your computer is swapping while playing TQ. If you notice mass HD access and slowdows, this is probably the case.

Turning the texture detail down will help the problem.

Also, comparing this game to Doom 3, or Half-life 2 is not much of a comparison. The sheer amount of textures used per screen of TQ is at least 2x more than Doom 3 or HL2, or FEAR for that matter. The polygon count is more as well, as each and every thing is detailed to the extreme.

In the end, the game runs amazingly well for the amount of detail that exists.

Does anybody take those Nvidia stamps seriously? I have 1GB of RAM, a 2.2Ghz Athlon Processor, and a Radeon x800 Pro, and I have not these problems. The only slowdown I've seen occurs when entering or exiting caves; it's obviously because of the transparency, and it isn't very bad. So, in response to your title:

    Guess not.
And like a sunset were her lips,
A stormy sunset on doomed ships...

Thumbs up Coolbits Tweek for Nvidia cards...especially good for older cards ;)

    Try this Nvidia Tweek...

I used it when I was running Oblivion on my 6600GT and it did wonders!

Pretty simple adjustment just be sure to READ every step and you should be fine.

Let us know if it helps you

    Regards,

This section is a Quote...not my wording or instructions. Proceed at your own risk! But I can tell you that I did it and it worked for me Roland

    NVIDIA card Coolbits tweak

This is one of the greatest driver tweaks I have ever seen. At first, I couldn't believe my results.

But the benchmarks don't lie; I nearly doubled my framerates after applying this tweak.
    There is no
noticeable drop in quality and no apparent side effects. I encourage everyone to apply this tweak.

It really is pretty unbelievable. Steps:

    1. Download and install the latest NVIDIA ForceWare drivers.

    2. Download and install the "Coolbits" registry tweak:

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815

(To install, unzip then double-click the .reg file to apply the registry mod)

    3. Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings tab -> Advanced -> GeForce XXXX (your card model)

    4. Expand "Performance & Quality Settings"

    5. Click on "Additional Direct3D Settings"

    6. Change "Max Frames to render ahead" from 3 to 0.

    7. Click "Apply" then "OK" to exit the settings page.

Run TQ and look a the difference...it should be substantial, especially with older cards.

    Good Luck!

I have a 7800GS card that runs TQ perfectly...so the logo is valid. It's just that the 6600 card is pretty low (now) on the performance charts, I know I had one

Try the tweek and let me know if it helps you any!

Also, it helps to change your Video Options to Medium and AA Off

    Good Luck!

so i have the same problem with the game it runs very very badly. My sistem is: proc: athlon 64 3000+
    ram: 1 GB cl 2.5
    video: Geforce 6600GT TDH Leadtek (500/1000 core/memory) PCI-E
    hdd: WD 200G sata 2.0
    sound: Audigy 4 value.
come on i just updated my video card bios to the latest bios version , installed the latest drivers from nvidia for my video cand mainboard. The sistem is running very smoothly but TQ is running like crap. Tested on the same sistem but with an Radeon x700Pro wich with 5% lower than my GF and the game was running a lot better. So please optimize your game for NVIDIA users and just leave the crap with 6600 GT isssues because in all the benchmarks is running great only in TQ and Oblivion is not... so please just try to fix ans optimize the problem and another thing ... give the ppl more video options so that they can set some shadows off, some lights, some shaders 1.4, 2.0 3.0.... come on don't just limit the settings. And also with that crap options.txt from user my documents ... my games... TQ you can see form the distance that the game is in a beta form... just do something with the game and optimize the graphics and introduce more options for details, lights , shadows, particles, shaders....
Oh and another thing lose that GOLD hud from the game wtf man why is this obsession with yellow and gold huds.... Just put something serios a Gray or something or introduce another options in video like "hud color" ....
Hope the developers will listen to our demands and introduce in the next patch because they need us to buy games and we need them to offer good games.
Another thing is the delay that is introduced when teleporting, come on remove that sh..t fade from black because that delay is annoing. We need to move fast in the game like diablo..
And another thing when u run the carater start slowly and then he runs.. come on we don't have the time to play here and to get annoyed by details like that .. remove this also....
Just make the game great by listening to gamers opinions...
