Hello,

I am beginning a second character and I was just wondering if there is a way to avoid taking all those hits, especially in the beginning with only weapon training, onslaught and a few other warfare skills.

It was pretty easy with my ranger to stay alive since I just had to move around to avoid taking too much damage. For this player I have to drink a potion every 2 minutes and the bosses are impossible to beat without a stock of 10 potions.

Am I missing something here or is that just the melee style ?

Thanks

welcome to melee characters.
They are more challenging, but hardly impossible.
You'll need to pay more attention to your equipment with a melee character-- armor value (in normal mode) and resistances are key

Seems strange to me. My warrior is my first character and I spent the early levels maxxing out Onslaught. So it sounds pretty similar to yours. Yet I was finding so many more healing potions in the beginning of the game than I needed that I was selling off whole stacks of them.

By the third act I was having to suck down healing potions every combat and stock up on them whenever I'd go back to the merchant. But at the low levels I just mowed through the monsters with no problems.

When I moved to Epic I used them even more. I pretty much keep my finger over the 9 key the entire time I'm fighting up until now. I've sometimes used 4 potions in a single fight. Now I just farmed the spider queen in the olive grove a few times and got a blue helmet with almost 80% pierce resist on it and that has helped a whole bunch. It's not quite so bad after that.

So what I'm saying is it sounds like something is wrong with your playing strategy or your equipment if you're constantly drinking health potions at your level. But at the same time, yes, you need to expect to be using healing regularly as a melee character.

I too have a melee character currently in epic difficulty. And yes he takes a ton of dmg and requires my constant attention with the heal potions ( I also die a lot). But melee characters are definitely more fun to play since you actually get to fight =).

I like the suggestion for finding an item that has a lot of pierce resistance, I'm definitely going to try that, OR find a lot of those charms with pierce resistance, hag skin I think.

Thanks

Normal and Epic are a walk in the park for a Champion, i don't think i died once during them. I had 8000 HP and my heal spell as well as pots and when you have heal and pot's at the same time, with such high HP, it's pretty difficult to die.

When i reached legendary that's when a few problems came up, i found myself drinking a few more potions because my pierce resistance was terrible. I find my Nymph can tank quite well because of it's dodge, this helps alot with bosses especially as i can heal her if she can get hit.

The only thing that will kill me now is stun. Once i am stunned i may as well press escape and start again. So, what i suggest is getting some nice stun resistant gear to stop this from happening.

Another piece of advice i can give you, (but you don't really have to follow it) is to make sure you can wear a pretty decent bow. This is so you can kill super hard bosses like Talos. All i did was make my Nymph tank him (i healed her when she got hurt bad from a distance) and then i kite him using my bow, he was dead in a few minutes and i didn't die once. If i had taken him on with melee i would have been stunned and died straight away.

So:

Normal and Epic - Heal and potions should keep you alive easily, these two acts should be easy.

Legendary - Find some stun resistant gear, make sure your dexterity is high enough to wear a bow, and make sure you bow has some decent damage. (dps with a bow on legendary should be about 400+ for a champion to do decent damage to bosses and sub bosses if you can't melee them)

Obviously all i have said won't work with everyone, but it's worked really well with me, my damage isn't amazing, but i'm having alot of fun being a Champion Archer! :p

As for the damage your taking, i just take it, my defense sucks but i have enough hp, pots and heal to keep my alive. I was having great fun earlier against medusas? (i think they're called that) doing 700-1100 damage to me every split second, and being able to tank them and take the damage.
