Anyone know if there is a mistake in the Lay Trap description on Gamebanshee? It seems that the only benefit you get from improving the skill is added health for your trap. Why on earth would anyone sink an extra point in this, much less 14 extra points in order to max it out? The trap damage must go up as you put more points into it, right?

According to the demo it's only HP increase. Pretty lame yea. :)
The whole trap thing isn't that great anyway if you ask me. First of all it's fixed damage which is totally useless on harder difficulties later on.
Plus it's not really a trap to begin with. It's just a midget ranger with no legs that you can summon.

Wow, pretty disappointing. In that case it seems like it was just left in there as an afterthought. That makes a whole branch of the Rogue mastery pretty useless as the Improved Firing Mechanism upgrade at lvl 32 doesn't really up the damage significantly. Thanks!

Please note that Rogue is unsupported in the demo.
The current fixed 5-12 damage probably goes up in the retail *I think*.
There are a lot of changes in the retail compared with the demo. So don’t make any important judgment calls just yet. Only one more week to go. :D

Skill points in "Lay Trap" increases the projectile damage and hitpoints of the the trap. They take a little bit of time to get onto the ground and firing, but when the modifiers are pumped up they do some serious damage. When we play multiplayer there is almost always someone who goes right for traps, and spams them down on bosses.

Thanks for pointing that out, I've updated all three skills in that line (Lay Trap, Rapid Construction, and Improved Firing Mechanism) with the correct statistics. I'm referring to the final gold version of the game, so whatever you see on our site now should be correct.
If you find any other skills that appear incorrect, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for the clarification! It definitely makes more sense now.

Yeah that's quite a bit more damage now. :)
Still a static/fixed number so it undoubtedly loses effectiveness the more damage you do on your own or enemies get more HP (legendary) but hey that's what mystics are for. ^^

Surely the higher the trap life the better the trap is?

Well of course more life is always better but it wouldn't be worth spending skill points in the trap skill just to improve the trap's hit points. Now that we know that "more skill points = more damage" it makes more sense to put points into it.

Not sure if that stat is right. Only a 1M firing radius? If so I can't imagine the passthrough would matter much. The Earth enchantment aura is 4M.
I could see how it would be overpowered if it had great range though.

Even though the in-game statistics show a 1.0 Meter Radius, I can verify that all shots fired extend to the edge of the screen (and beyond). My rogue is currently level 28 and has all three skills in the Lay Trap line maxed out. Dropping three of these traps around the room during a boss fight (or in the middle of a large battle) is absolutely devastating. Personally, I think it's one of the best skill lines in the game.

Does anyone know if buffs affect traps? (I'm assuming not)

Area effect buffs affect traps.
