View Full Version : [Summoner] - Stat Question
07-24-2006, 09:27 PM
Well, since pretty much all my damage comes from my Core Dweller, 2 wolves, and nimph, I'm not sure where to put my stat points! If I point them in int, my staff does a tiny bit more damage. If I put them in Str, I can use some armor to protect me from stuff that strays in. Any suggestion on this? Perhaps, str and int on this character?

armors arent great right now, lets see what the first balance patch brings

Life isn't a bad idea, but if they fix armor, I'll be mad if I can't use the good stuff :)

'k, I use an summoner, and so far my CD takes all the beats, so I don't see any use for armor, and, to a lesser extent, life.
I had put all my points evenly in INT and DEX, and now that I have 150 base DEX I'm putting all in INT. maybe for a little bit of safety, I'll start pumping health for epic...

I put most in Int for a long while, then when I was pretty happy with that, I started doing 1 to INT and 1 to LIFE or ENERGY every level. I don't think Dex is really needed, as you're typically not whacking at monsters (and they better not be whacking at you!). If you have Heart of Oak, you probably don't have to bump Life at all - and I have HoA but I still did it. What this means is that at level 51 I have something like 5200 HP, and I haven't been one-shotted yet (though the Manticore did a quick 2-shot overkill that sent me flying to the sky - my best death ever!

My Summoner has been mainly int with a about 5 points in reserve in case i need more Dex for a nice item. Higher int also help get the better staves.

Does earths enchantment fire dmg boost also counts for volcanic orb or does it only works with the weapon you are using ?

INT/Life eventually you may want to use volcanic orb especialy if you find a legendary fire staff like i did. I have now went to volcanic orb/core dweller and the rest are unnecassary combined with plague from the nature line there are no mobs that can stand in the way.
Putting alot in health wont help that much to be honest I have 5k health and still get annihalated by arrows going to 6k wont make enough of a difference IMO but more int for more dmg will. If you plan on being all pets all the time and never go to elemental dmg then yeah i guess go all life. In later difficulties str for melee dmg wont help at all so str is only good to get high enough for items you wanna wear.

now with my summoner, I have my CD and Nymph (mainly for the health reduction on boss fights), but is there a big need for the dmg side of plague as a summoner (using mainly volc orb,staff and eventually eruption for dmg), or is the elemental resistance debuff good enough?

Has anyone tried a STR based melee Summoner in Legendary?
I read one of the strong points in Earth/Fire Mastery was 'Earth Enchantment'. Combine that with the Wolves' Howl to boost my damage couldn't that be enough? I also see 'Earth Enchantment' to be more party friendly whereas Eruption & Volcanic Orb are not.
I plan to multiplay my Summoner with someone who will likely go melee using Warfare+Something. If I'm a caster he will also fall out of range of my Heart of the Oak aura more often as will my Wolves & CoreDweller. I also read casters out-kill melee and archers in Legendary (and Epic?) so if I went INT caster-summoner I fear my spells and staff would be killing everything (except bosses) before he even reached it... leaving him bored.

I have my earth/defender with most of his stats split between str/int and I must say the addition of good items certainly helps survivability. The main reason I went for str was to be able to use good shields and good weapons. I used an amulet for a long time that added about 200pts to my strength and that let me focus on my int a little more and still use good gear all around.

My summoner has the following stat at around lvl 50
Dex = 150*
Health = up to 6.7k HP with Heart of Oak
Int = the rest
*Medierra has admitted that there is a bug with Earth Mastery, raising the Mastery skill should add Dex but they didn't put that in. So, in other words, all Earth mastery character are somehow handicapped in dex. They deserve more dex.

Don't waste points on a lot of health. You'll rarely be running around completely full on life anyway, it's a waste.
