This thread (http://www.titanquest.net/technical-corner/4654-miles-sound-system-6-6c-needs-updated-6-6g-causing-most-problems.html) appeared a while ago, and as most issues that appear on this forum I assumed it had been read by some developer. However, it doesn't seem to have received much attention. Having checked the suggestions forum on this issue without finding anything, I decided to "forward" it here.
The thing is, with a clean install + 1.08 update the mss32.dll is version 6.6g, but the drivers are still v6.6c. The user supplied file in the thread mentioned above updates some of these files to v6.6g. In general, I believe that version inconsistencies is a bad thing. On the computer I'm currently using, it appears to have resolved the crashes near Mt. Olympus / Typhon. Also the sound seems richer, but that might be my optimism fooling me. The sound card is a Soundblaster Live! Value.
I think that either incorporating the 6.6g drivers in the next patch, or at least supplying them as a separate package, could do a few wonders for some issues people are having. At least I can't see how it could hurt.
