So there will be night and day, that's good. What about weather? Rain, snow, wind, thunder, lightning, hail?

Dare I ask...tornadoes?

Only shiny sun, no rain.

But, maybe will it be possible to add those with the advanced tools for the editor that will be released later on? ;)

I never understood why people like rain/night/fog and so on. IMO its just decreasing the game play. Okay, it's more realistic.. But I take a walk when I need realism.. I play Computer games for fun.

It makes it much more fun to me. Why would it always be clear? Why always daytime? I'd even like to see seasons pass in an RPG. Not just by implication (Diablo 2 has a snowy realm, for example, but I mean changing seasons in a single area). It adds depth to the environment in the same way that the shadows and swaying grasses do. Heck, I think you should be able to interact with the entire environment too--trees, rocks, whatever. That's a sort of detail that, to me, makes a game stand out--like the harmless scorps and critters you can crush by walking over in D2.

Zeus in TQ makes sure the hero doesn't get a cold during his journey. That's why there is no different weather. So simple! :)

I like trees, because they don't ruin my game play. I know.. environment is good. But in my world game play has higher priory than minor real-life-details.

Trees make me feel happy and they are beautiful.
Night irritates me. Playing in darkness is sadly making you unable to see the other environment.
I wish I could turn the night-time off.

Hehe, funny

Anyway, Greece, Egypt, Mediterrannean countries, the sun is shining most of the time! :)

That is what I was thinking. It is not like from the U.K. to northern France. Lets just say the sun was out today. First time in a week. For one, I think I am very pleased that there is no snow in southern Greece. I don't think that Parthenon would be there today if there were. If it were, I don't think it would look like it does today.

Well, there's snow sometimes in Greece too, and not too long ago, Athens and the Parthenon were completely covered with snow (like winter a couple years ago), but most of the time it's plain shiny ;)

I agree napoleon, why make it hard to see what you're supposed to be killing? I can see the other side of it also though,It adds more depth for some people but it would be nice to be able to turn it off if you wanted to.Although i do like a nice dark tomb occationally but you expect those sort of levels to be that way.

It's called "added challenge." ;) Well anyway it makes a big difference to me. I'm glad there is night at least.

I loved that! Sometimes I would even do it on purpose. :D

Thanks

Me too. It's details that put your avatar *in* the environment. I also miss the urns and stuff you can break open. There are a lot of details in TQ but not many are interactive--with the huge, obvious exception of how the grass/flowers sway around when you walk through them. That's really cool. Shadows and physics, too.

But it rains everywhere...surely it rains in Greece? The cool thing about it was that it was unpredictable. It makes more sense than weather that is always clear, and is a cheap way to add variety to the experience. Variety to me equals replayability. I've done the demo several times now and the only variation is in how I build my character; everything else happens the same way in the same place every time. Just a comment, not trashing on the game. I'm as excited as anybody.

I'd like to see cool weather represented by fog breath coming out of the characters/creatures mouths, even.

For some reason though, I hardly noticed that nobody bleeds.

Hehe, actually I like trees because I'm an environmentalist. Trees are so natural/renewable. It has not much to do with Titan Quest :)

why not weather effects !?

rain…fog … these things add atmosphere (rim-shot (http://faultgame.com/images/rimshot.wav))

but seriously , they do -much appreciated atmosphere at that

(a dramatic thunder storm can make a dramatic sword fight a the more dramatically dramatic.......
... or something )

I liked the occasional rain-shower in Diablo 2 also. It added to the atmosphere! I also liked the parts in Dungeon Siege where you passed over mountain passes and it would snow.

Maybe in TQ on the Silk Route we're also going over snowy mountain passes, where it will be snowy? We haven't seen that part yet, so there's still hope... *wink*

ABout those pesky night times. Does the game actually adjust the "visibility" of your character accordingly? I mean, at night, does your character become stealthier to the enemies?

rahnefan
06-08-2006, 07:51 AM
Don't see why he would, unless he can see in the dark. Which, I assume, many or most of the monsters can.

Hmm I think I wasn't clear on my question. Let me try again.
Night time make things harder to be seen for us players. So I wonder if the decreased visibility of things in the game world would also apply to the monsters in TQ. (For added realism effect)

I doubt it, but what do I know. Anyway, shouldn't many of them be able to see in the dark? I'd expect things with names like Dark this and Night that and Moon this and Shadow that to be able to see in the dark. Vampires and most undead, definitely. Anything feline and a lot of other such creatures too, should be able to see in the dark. I think.

Night time has been made shorter in the final version. Also, the devs said that they made it easier to see because gamers were having problems seeing the enemies. Hope that answered your question.

i hope they dont make it too light
i really like the "dread" of night in games like this.

Sure, you want to be able to target the enemy or its no fun

but i hope by making it easier
it means expanding the light radius about your player
as well as a bit of a half light slightly further than whatever that is
