View Full Version : [Illusionist] Some viable skills...

Hi I play an Illusionist (Rogue/Nature) and I just wanna know the most viable skills late game. I realize that Heart of the Oak is worth it but are wolves good later on in legendary or late epic? Also what about envenom weapon and its passive abilities, are they good skills to take up? I would appreciate some help and I would appreciate a lot of help :) Thanks for your time for those who respond.

i guess youre not interested in playing an "uber" build, if however you want to be as efficient as possible you might want to consider dropping bleed and poison for traps, i wont say theyre useless but ill say theres far stronger stuff

also lvl 1 flash powder is pretty useless, its one of these "max or ignore" skills

id probably drop envenom weapon to 1, kick anatomy and open wound, drop mortal wound to 1, max out the trap line, max out flash powder and ...hmmm prolly max out nature mastery and put the rest into survival instinct

Thank you for your honest response but I have some questions...why envonem to only 1 point and why drop bleed and posion? Are traps good or do they die to quickly? If anyone has a nice build to post that would be great! And thanks for you help already felexitus.

Hi!

I have my illusionist with lvl 41 in epic-changan. So, all the really hard stuff is yet to battle.
But i already can say, that i think, that illusionist is tough to play.

I wanted to play as summoner, but the wolves (maxed out the whole line) did only well until midth of epic. Then they started to die too quickly to be helpful. Also, they cost a lot of energy. I had to drink portions a lot to recast them.

So i got rid of them.

I still have my nymph. She's not extremely helpful, but doesnt die every other minute, cause she knows how to stay out of trouble. So, i have her for the company.

I maxed out traps also. Three of them, together with blade-honing and oak-shielded, make a decent killing. Thing is, though, that i have to run a lot, because i'm generally too weak to stand the crowd. And this renders the traps more or less useless, because they are never where the enemies are. But in some cases they silently kill or at least make work a bit easier on small enemies. They are handy with typhon and such bosses. It takes some time, but you can toss one after the other, until the boss is dead. Doesnt work with the bull, though. You're dead while tossing the damn thing.

I first had lethal strike, but abandoned it for knife-throwing, because of the distance. I can throw them while running away.

I first tried flash-powder. But i needs to be cast while the enemies gather around you: in epic no good situation. So i changed to mandrake. This has the same effect but works on normal weapons: definitly the way to go.

All in all i feel, that this char is rather weak both in dealing damage as in absorbing damage. i have to invest a lot of points into strength to get decent armor. I should have them in dex for the pierce-dmg., though. Enemies who dont bother pierce, like undead or mechanics (clay-army included) are really tough. I drink more portions than hitting enemies (traps pierce as well)

I almost maxed oak-shield and still die die with four blows of one clay-guy. This is insane.

Play this char if you want to have a real challange. Try to find really good armor ;)

envenom 1 point because its the prequisite for the awesome mandrake and nightshade wich i wouldnt drop

bleed and poison are inferior to the other damage types, unlike elemetal pierce and physical damage it can not be modified by your attributes and in legendary 500 damage is not much

traps are awesome. nuff said.

i personally like the wolves. they avert opponent attention very well and its just fun to have 6 pets (traps and wolves) i dont like the nymph tho but i guess thats a personal thing

the 10 points in regrowth were put there because i didnt know what to do with them, maybe they should have been put into survival instinct but i dont like that skill

if id want him to specialize on casting id go for this build

however my ut tells me to forget about that build immediately (notice he still uses spear or sword and shield)

Both have you have helped me immensley. I understand that my build is kind of challenging but I've grown to like that. My friend plays a ternion attack soothsayer and to tell you the truth i like the danger of dieing and absolutley needing good gear rather than not. I think I am going to try traps out with the wolves. I understand the wolves die fast so I may invest in survival instinct or healing...havent decided yet. Otherwise you guys are right about bleeding/posion they sound nice and cool but in reality they do not help as much as they give you the impression by the skills. Thanks for your time, and any further help is well appreciated.

Right now I pretty much only going through the rogue tree an just use nature for Heart of the Oak. Should I respec a little? Does anyone have advice as to which way I should put my points in?

I would seriously recommend getting Survival Instinct if you want to get the most out of your wolfs. Level1 Throwing Knifes + Flurry of Knifes is extremely useful for getting Mandrake/Nightshade on a group of monsters, might be something youd want to try.
