Nessus hides his magic chest from me!

im playing an assasin in normal difficulty (lvl17). at the end of every gaming session i usually teleport to sparta run to nessus the centaur kill him and plunder his magic chest (with mixed results) - but - on the last 2 runs his magic chest was no there! is there a cap on the # of possible farming runs or is it due to my level?

I've never heard of such a thing, maybe just an odd occurence? Try again and see.

I've noticed this happens with majestic chests when I try to go back after I've entered the next act. Did you happen to enter egypt just before this time you noticed the chest missing at Nessus?

I tried this new fangled farming sensation once on the Spider Queen, killed the git then saved, exited and reloaded to come out at the fountain at the start of the area. Procceded to kill the queen again and the chest was missing although the twig was back.

I never did fully understand this farming thing. As others have stated, a lot of these chests seem to be linked to quest status. To truly "farm," one would need to defeat the boss, take the items, and restore the 'Levels_World_World01.map' folder to it's state previous to the boss encounter. This seems a tad tedious.

However, some quests don't update until you perform an action after the boss. These actions could include talking to someone or going through a portal. In these cases, "farming" may seem possible.

This happened to me as well, but on the chest in the Orient from the Sheng guy or whatever on the Great Wall. Ran him like 5 or 6 times but after that the chest was just gone.

The spider queen's chest moves after the very first kill if you're farming her, just look closer towards the stairs that you came up, it should no longer be by the tree.

Missing Majestic Chest Syndrome (:razz:) has effected me only once. In epic, when I went to kill the Chimera for the first time, the chest didn't spawn. I didn't think that this had happened until I killed him in Legendary and the chest was there. I was like "Hey, I remember this place. When I was here last I thought something along the lines of: 'Damn, what a cheap boss, not even a treasure chest for the trouble (even though I took him out easily)'".

This thread got me to do some in-depth testing... :nerd:

I've been pretty neurotic about manually backing up my character since early on in the game. Anyway, to test... I did my third Nessus run after leaving the area (almost done with the first act on epic). Each one was from a different town portal in the first act upon reaching a new town (this has been on-going). Each time, no majestic chest. This is where I made use of an old backup. I knew it was a save before completing the Nessus quest, so I reloaded the files with my current player file (yeah, I know... it's probably called hacking :lol:) and re-ran Nessus. First time, as expected, the Majestic chest was there. It remained there for every subsequent run until I replaced the old quest files with my current ones. Now the chest won't come back. I know the Majestic chests are linked to quests status now.

Yup. Easily farmable quests are the Cyclops, Arachne (I didn't pick up the olive leaf till I was done), Telkine+minotaur, I'm working on the Scorpion guy with the two chests right now and thats as far as I've got. All are easily runnable at >100% run speed and while tedious and time consuming produce good results if your lucky, I've got 5 or 6 blues at lvl 20 in normal + a bunch of blues for other characters.

after killing normal nessus several times (8+) in order to find out if the missing chest reappears i think its save to say that its gone for good :(

i dont know how/why this happened. all other boss chests are easily farmable and always there and i never had this problem with my hunter.

lets hope this does not happen with typhon or on any boss in epic...

Yea I know, but when Typhon die, he drop an orb of his essence, that orb never showed.. :confused:

Wow, craziness! Well, on the bright side, maybe if someone can figure out why that happens we can figure out how to make him drop two. :D

argh! it happened again. started a new char (conjurer lvl14) and after reaching the first rebirth fountain outside of the parnassus caves i saved and started a new game to kill nessus again. teleported to sparta killed him and there it is - not - his majestic chest is lacking :(

i tried again twice but its definatly gone for good...

now out of 3 of my chars 2 suffer from the nessus plays dirty bug :shifty:

i hope this gets looked at for the next patch.

I just lost my legendary majectic chest from the spider queen :-( Damnit, she was the first really easy and easily accessible boss, and she dropped 4 legendary items first time 'round...Went back, nothing :-(

Funny. The stupid Spider Queen has never dropped ANYTHING worthwhile for me. It's almost always a "Loop of Ability". Craptastic. On the otherhand, in an attempt to get something interesting, I did kill her three times this morning, and every time the chest was there. I still got crap. but the chest was there. Some days I get lots of blues. Some days, I get crap. I think it's just random and the random number generator is prone to streakiness.

Happened to me as well. Running v1.08 of the game, and killed the Chimera for the first time in Epic. All i got as a reward was a lousy mahogany chest. Nothing else. Hate when you do a hard battle, and get no reward for it.

You know when you kill Typhon how the two animations sometimes aren't in sync with each other? This causes Typhon's bones to disappear for a split second before reappearing with the orb. If you were to move your character under where Typhons bones fall during that split second, then neither the bones nor the orb appear. Found that out the hard way :/.

Well, the first time you kill a boss, his/her chest produces statistically better loot than subsequent kills.
Once, after experiencing a character-corrupting game crash, I deleted some .que files but was unable to reset my quest data properly. Luckily, I was still in early epic greece so I just redid all the main quests. Much to my suprise, they all had TWO OVERLAPPING magestic chests.
I took the extra loot and considerd it my "reward" for the frustrations of a crash and having to re-do quests (all yellows anyway)
I dont know if there is a way to delete certain savegame files to reproduce this effect, and I don't really care if there is. It was funny at the time, though.
