I have a few -
Pet master illusionist - why is it weird? It's not that weird really, its the only way to play the class. It just plays SO differently from every other class in TQIT. have pets, lay traps, spread debuffs and tank stuff for your pets. Just feels backwards. :)
Mage Hunter - Storm/Hunting, focus on magic damage but use a bow. :) (deceptively powerful)
Spellbreaker summoner - max CDR items, you can summon battlestandard and ancestors/outsider for every single fight.

That sounds amazingly fun.
I think I only have only had one weird build before, and it was because of the situation. Back when I tried the Uber Challenge, I decided to try it with a Trapper Magician. Probably not the best idea...but man those traps did a lot of fire damage.

@ASYLUM101 - did u use a staff with ternion attack with the spellbreaker summoner, or a sword, sounds like it could be a fun build

I personally went 1h+shield. I needed to be durable but have the CDR, and there was a few shields I had for that job.
But staff works too. You just kinda skimp on your warfare tree and only grab essentials - battle standard and triumph (if you have fanpatch), warhorn+doomhorn, and ancestral warriors. Rest of your points in spirit pets and you really don't have much room for deviance.

As you can see...there's really not much you can do. :/ UNLESS you want to ignore liche king, but you're losing out on TONS of DPS if you do.
Your core stats for this build are cooldown reduction, +skills (lets you get more skill points elsewhere) , and tank stats.

This is optimal, but you'd need to get all the skill point quests (21 bonus points!) so you don't need to hit level 63, cause that takes a while.
Note - I didn't invent this build, I don't want to take credit for it, I just saw it being used in another thread YEARS ago and thought it was awesome.

I havent tried it yet but someone (possibly Irma2) suggested to me the idea of a staff using templar instead of the traditional club/shield combo.
It sounds like fun to me and would probibly end up looking something like this http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.asp?mastery=Templar&master1=5&master2=9&sa=21&m1=32-0-12-0-6-12-0-0-0-6-0-0-0-0-0-8-6-0-0-8-0-0&m2=32-5-12-12-0-8-0-6-0-8-0-8-12-0-8-12-6-12-0-0-12-0 Essentially a dream focused build, maby I will try it one day.
btw: I spent all of two minutes making this build. It is in no way complete but just to show the general idea of what I mean.

BeRad - why no rally? Rally is a great skill for quick and easy defenses and an AWESOME heal.
Since templar already has SICK regen passives (12+33) you can easily hit another 150% of that to get around 130ish health regen with ONE point.
Not to mention the top most synergy gives a ton of elemental resists. :)
But I think that build has WAY too many skill points, I don't think you'll ever finish.
http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.asp?mastery=Templar&master1=5&master2=9&sa=21&m1=32-0-1-0-6-12-1-0-0-6-0-0-6-0-0-4-6-0-12-8-0-0-0&m2=32-8-1-1-0-8-0-6-1-8-0-8-12-1-1-1-6-12-0-0-12-0-0
That's a bit easier to aim for (and imo a bit better)You don't need maxed distortion wave and distort reality - it's the synergies that REALLY do the damage.

Spellbreaker with -100% recharge deathchill tree and warhorn+doom horn rocks. Constant stun + huge -% reduction to health + constant ancestral warriors rocks. It was a long time ago so I forget how effective it was.

The absolute weirdest? Well, back in the day when I was quite fairly to the game (pre-IT, even) I had that crazy urge to see if I could make an Elementalist "passive killer". The idea was to draw as much aggro as possible, then get into Stone Form and let Ring of Flames, Stome Surge and the reflection/retaliation damage of Molten Rock, Static Charge and Reflection take out the baddies. Didn't work quite as well as I intended but I think I made it through Act 3, at least - although I couldn't overcome Typhon, if I remember it correctly.

Unarmed melee build(Defence + something...). Unfortunately, TQ doesn't offer a whole lot of base damage additions, so the toon really didn't even get out of the gate before I had to shelf the idea. Probably be a faster killer with damage reflection than drying to faceslap Hades to death....

I tried this too, I called it a Captain America build. I was disappointed to find that you basically dual-wield your fist and your shield, instead of the game treating your fist as your primary weapon. IIRC somebody actually did a playthrough of the game with only his fists...was it Cookie Monster? That was a long time ago.

The same one I've made guide for = Pet-less, plague-less Ranger :) Not as much weird as uncommon because everyone loves those pets. And plague.
And had few others. Like Brigand focusing on bleed and poison before I found out they suck big time on long term gameplay.
Magician also going on poison damage along with fire dot damage, whom was also melee. Sorcerer, melee, without Squall.....those were the days.

(cant rmeber class name :( ) but i tried storm and earth and got most of the damage speels, so i had 1,2,3,45,6,7,8,9,0 all filled up and just mashed my buttens and mouse :D took ages to get used to cos i mainly play something + warfare, but yea this is a really strange class that works out well if you have enough energy regen haha
An int-type Guardian. Perhaps my only attempt at making a high level defense/x character, using my old wanderer (still stuck at normal Typhon) as a template. He was actually pretty powerful iirc, unlike my other petmancers this guy would happily tank mobs personally even after act 4 normal. Sanctuary and Colossus Form with a high level Refresh goodness. No shield defense character (yeah yeah epic fail, but at least I tried making one).
