Hey, Nice Axe!!

So, now that I've been playing a little bit and getting exposed to the gear and gameplay I have a question. I get the reason for using clubs/mace weapons (high damage, speed boosts easy to get) and swords (natural speed and piercing damage) but what about axes...where do they fit in from a usage standpoint? I have not yet figured out a time I would want to use an axe over a sword or club. What am I missing?

Axes are decent for when you have you don't have enough attack speed to want a club, but swords' wimpy base damage starts being problematic. My Harb used a green axe into post-Legendary and only ditched it when I found Sapros. Combined with the club he was using, the axe just pushed my attack speed up enough that I was comfortably close to the cap.

It's also a case of what affixes you can find. If you're using a Monstrous Club of Feasting and a vendor offers you a Ferocious axe of Havoc, are you going to turn it down?

Very true, if you of course find the best affixes, damage, etc. on an axe, then by all means equip the axe. All affixes being equal there seem to be very few scenarios that would warrant the axe being the best choice. Your scenario above however, would obviously apply.

My Seer is currently using a Depleting Labrys of Pain at the moment. Energy leech, EBD, 10% chance to fumble, Bleed damage for 5 sec, and slowed 15% for 4 sec, what's not to love. Add to it an Essence of Anubis with +8% to attack speed. It's just plain murder.

post-Legendary? once you finish the game, what is the point in playing that character?

Farming. My Brig went from killing Hades at level 65 to level 75, farming mostly Legendary Secret Passage and the Gorgons. From that toon alone, I found 30+ sets of +3 SBC and almost every unique item in the game.
