It's decent. I didn't keep me playing longer than ~ level 20. There are only 3 classes so not very much replayability. Did you ever play Fate? It is essentially the same thing in ARPG form. I came back to TQ pretty fast.

However, like TQ, there are TONS of mods and supposedly it's easier to mod... so you could remain busy for a while if that interests you.
I got to level 25ish, stopped, started again after getting some mods, and stopped again very shortly after because those mods are broken and most will crash your game. Or they did mine.
The game is hella sick, but after awhile it gets boring. After like level 25. Just torrent it, and if you like it, buy it. PERSONALLY, I would wait for Torchlight 2 to come out, will have multiplayer and a bigger storyline.

I believe I picked it up for 50% or 75% during the holiday sales. It is pretty good and is easy to pick up and put down. Not as complex as most RPGs from both story and mechanics but probably worth $10 or less. There is a demo so you can get an idea of what the game is like from it. The demo represents basically what the whole game is probably like. At least as far as I have played, which I believe is somewhere in the low 20s dungeon level. Probably at least half way through the game. Each dungeon level is a tid bit of the main story and then there are side quests to kill a boss on probably about half or more of the levels. There are also some special quests for optional dungeon stuff too. But I think that is about it for quest content.

It's a great game in my opinion.
Mods only make it better in my eyes, I've got maybe 10 or so mods installed and they all work great together. If you're into installing mods make sure to get TorchLeech it will tell you if you have conflicts in the mods you've chosen to install so that you can prevent crashing of the game due to that.
Torchlight 2 should be a whole lot better though, since it fixes my number one beef with TL, which is lack of outside areas to play in, they've added outdoor areas in TL2, so that should be a lot more interesting than just keep going down level by level into the dungeons.
