I didn't install any of the other patches if that matters, but can someone tell me the steps of installing it with steam?

Same as any other TQIT version. Just click the installer after putting it in your TQIT folder.

(1) Save the FanPatch 1.17 file in your Steam folder on your hard drive ...C:\Program Files\ Steam\ Steamapps\ Common\ Titan Quest Immortal Throne... Do Not Save it in the regular game folder listed as 'Titan Quest' because for me it didn't identify the correct directory and wouldn't execute....make sure it's saved in the 'Titan Quest Immortal Throne' folder.
(2) Run the FanPatch executible file from there and it will update the game version to 1.17a.
(3) Run your game from the Steam client launcher and enjoy! You should see game version on the first game screen as 'v.1.17 sd'

Good info Logan! if possible this thread should be stickied by mods to help newcomers. They all face this problem of fanpatch installation quite frequently.

This didn't work for me. I always get this "Software not found" message. I didn't install anything apart from the Clash of the Gods mod, and that's a custom map on My Documents, so I don't really think is an issue :S

could you browse your computer and see in which folder location do you see Tqit.exe (check it's not any link or shortcut) along with some other .dll files? try placing the fanpatch installer within that folder and executing it. If the message repeats and you're using vista/7, right-click and give the option to run as administrator.

Thanks for your help, but I tried running it as admin, and of course I am on C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\titan quest inmortal throne... still it doesn't work.
I always get a message: "WHere is titan quest inmorta throne installed?" and an empty textbox that I tried to fill with lots of different paths, trying. But "Software not founds" always appears

so you're saying you see all the .dlls and Tqit.exe only in that folder? I believe those files may be located elsewhere. if possible can you post a snapshot of that folder.

You should not be putting random paths here! I repeat, find the game executable file name Tqit.exe and the other related dlls together. Do not give the location of your game shortcuts or links here (right-click the file to verify). Now in this window, give the complete path to this executable file.
If the above procedure does not work then try this and test your luck, it should be similar in most Windows OS:
1) Right-click "My Computer" and click on "Properties"
2) In the new window, click on "Advanced System Settings"
3) In the new window, look for a button labelled "Environment variables" and click on it.
4) You'll see a new window with two boxes titled as "User variables" & "System variables". Now repeat the following steps twice for each box.
5) Check for a variable called "Path" and click on "Edit"
6) In the new window, you would see a long list of names. Click on the text box and go to the end. Type ";" here. Now copy and paste the "Tqit.exe" complete file location here. For eg: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\titan quest inmortal throne\Tqit.exe"
7) Save the settings.
Now close all the windows and try running the installer again.

Well, I wasn't filling it with random paths, I just tried including "Tqit.exe" itself on the path, not including it, etc... I didn't know if it was asking for the complete path, or just the path to the folder. Anyway, it didn't work. And I edited the system variable paths, and that didn't work too.
And yes, I am on: "C:\Archivos de programa\Steam\steamapps\common\titan quest inmortal throne\Tqit.exe" (Archivos de programa means Program files, i'm spanish). And of course there are .dll files and the Tqit.exe file on this folder. It's not like I don't know how to use file paths, that's not my problem at all.
But something still doesn't works :(
And thanks for your replies, I hope I can fix this soon ^^

Try reinstalling, I've installed the FP personally on 5 PCs, all using steam, 2 XP, 2 Win7 64-bit, and 1 Vista 32-bit. All you have to do is download the FP, stick it in your steamapps/common/tqit folder and bam. Install. Done, play FP and enjoy.

I suppose the window has a feature to browse to the file executable location rather than just typing it manually.

The issue is not about you not knowing how to use file paths ;) but the location of the game executable in various folder locations as links.
is your game up-to-date i.e. TQ at 1.30 & IT at 1.10? Do you have any mods or existing patches on TQIT? Could you remove them or do a fresh install so that the fanpatch can detect the correct game version for installation.

Steam installs the games with the latest update automatically.

I suppose the window has a feature to browse to the file executable location rather than just typing it manually. No, it's just an empty textbox that users have to fill with their paths to Tqit.exe. There isn't any browse option. And the Tqit.exe isn't a shortcut, it's the real one :)
I think the easiest way to fix it it's uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but then I would have to re-download the game T_T There's any way to do this without redownloading everything? Steam is great, but for this things it's a mess :S

Alright, that's a hard choice there :(
so are you able to play the game without fanpatch? which OS do you use?
Just covering all bases, could you remove any mods and try installing the fanpatch? keep backup of your saves in another location.
Edit:
Just saw Asylum's post on re-install and if he says it works for him, I would definitely vouch for his solution.

Have you modified any of the game files? Mainly referring to Engine.DLL to get rid of the Socket error for multiplayer? If so, the patch installer will not recognize it and give the above issue. Unless you personally modified your own file instead of downloading a pre modified one.
If so, you can verify the cache via steam and it should re-download just a couple files, then you can install the fan patch.

For me the path is E:\Steam\SteamApps\common\titan quest immortal throne
I installed it from Steam, never modified a thing after downloading. A fresh install. I then downloaded the fanpatch, and extracted it into that very same folder. Everything has worked flawlessly.
I did find this post however from another thread, that you may find helpful:
I found out that you need to re-install at least IT to get the patch working on Steam, I re-installed both. Steam seems to fail the installation quite often from what I hear, I don't know what the problem actually is, but when I started re-downloading IT from Steam, it started from 62% oddly enough. Might be related to the problem. Perhaps.

Thanks for this, worked for me. I haven't played Titan Quest in about three years. Got it off steam for about 4 or 5 bucks a few months ago. Was watching some Diablo III videos and got a craving for some TQ. I was surprised to see that there still a pretty strong community out there.
Great site!

Sorry for the spam. Yeah, when I went to play Immortal Throne off steam, I got an error message saying that titan quest needed to be installed. I had installed a few months ago. For whatever reason, it wasn't being recognised. So what I did was just start up TQ from Steam. Strangely enough, that was all I needed to do to get Immortal Throne working.
Started TQ up, then exited, then started IT up.
