anyone own/know someone who owns one?

im thinking about buying one, and was looking for some opinions. the main reason im looking into it is because of all the free books you can get. even if i end up prefering the feel of a real book in my hands, there are so many free books you can get on kindle it seems well worth the money.

also, is it worth the extra 40 or 50 bucks to get the 3g version? or is the basic wifi good enough?

I think kindles are freakin awesome. The read so closely to a book (way better than an ipad) and are pretty light. The 3G option is nice, but you need to think about when you are going to use it mostly to make that decision. Will you normally be at home or near wifi when using? Then just get the wifi version. I don't see 3G as necessary, just more convenient.

yea, i havent been able to see one in real life, but i have heard they read pretty close to a real book (less eyestrain than a computer monitor etc).

ill probably go with the non-3G version. i have wifi at my home, and ill most likely have enough of a backlog of books as to not need to download on the go.
