To clarify up some questions, here is a concept design of a very large area (3 x 3 regions). The question here is, which IS correct? Sample #1 or Sample #2 for designing large regions? I designed this image so that future modders would know how to develop huge areas and link 3x3 sectors/area together (as example).

Thank you for answering the question... I have the original PSD if anyone would like to show the correct design theory for large region development in a future modding guide. Just p/m me. Thanks for looking and answering this...

Unless I missed something really big along the way, don't you just put regions next to each other in the layout window to link them?

You can edit terrain (height + textures) across regions in the editor too, so I don't think you need portals above ground.

thats how ive done it too, seems to work fine, with no gaps etc.. or problems crossing from region to region. Unless this is a 'bodge job' and not the 'correct' way of linking regions.

So portals are soley for connecting terrains to grids and vice versa?

Generally, yes.

You can do it your way, its just.. harder and inefficient.

well im my personal experience with the editor i have not yet sucessfully linked outdoor areas the "simple" way.. it either crashed the editor when i build or deletes all the content on one of the areas :/ still trying to figure out why

I had one region overlapping another slightly (being lazy when lining them up!) and it deleted the terrain in one of them, might be why!
Generally it should be ok if you get them all lined up nicely using the top down view in the layout window.

Just put two regions next to each other and they are connected all along the way. Here's some example pictures:

yeah i know it should work like that.. but for some reason it wont for me.. it deletes areas.. removes placables and keeps crashing when i build areas after moving them next to each other.. its inexplicable when it works (which is rarely) and very annoying when it doesnt.. which is most of the time

I found that problem happening to me. If you start with all blank maps, it should work. Or, try importing the maps into a new mod. It helped me when I kept crashing. :\

Ya I get crashes too! I wonder if this is an ATI related issue as well?
