I've played a few different classes to mid 30-40s and I'm having a lot of fun with the game. Though now I'm looking for a melee oriented class with plenty of ability choice. I'm playing a melee diviner atm and having great fun with it, but I'm in nightmare and a little worried about my future survivability/damage.

I am basically playing the diviner as an auto-attack character with a lot of crowd control. Through normal I could pretty much run into a group, cast one cc, and i could trust everything would be dead. Now I'll run into a group of mobs, fear, stun, petrify, and hope i can auto-attack everything down before my cc's run out.

As I've already had a substantial investment in strength, I'm doubtful how much actual damage further investment in my spells will produce. Can I count on my armor/melee dps to keep up with the mobs as I progress or do they scale to a point where I will no longer be viable?

I don't think you'll do well in Legendary trying to split your damage between Electrical Burn (Int) and melee (physical).

I have two melee Diviners, one who is entirely Str/Dex physical and just uses DR/TR and DW as crowd control with almost no damage, and the other who is mostly Int and Dex with just a little bit of Str. She does mainly Vitality damage (Int) and will be hoping to make the EBD spells keep up in damage somewhat in Legendary. I've only put a bit into Str as I want to wear warrior gear and will use -% requirements gear to accomplish that. Some Dex is also necessary, not just for gear but also to keep OA and DA at reasonable levels.

Trying to mix a Str-based melee toon with Int-based spells is always very tough.
