mage class

i only played melee classes until now,wich is fun but i am interested in playing a mage or something like that.
can you recommend me a good class + build wich makes good damage and is fun to play,also in legendary? please no summoner builds

with mage i don´t only mean the classical mage,a necromancer type of character or something like a druid would also be interesting ;)
just something wich is not melee or bow weapons based

I think browsing the various caster mastery forums might be more productive. Posters have already given Diviner and other caster builds multiple times. There is little motive for them to do so again. The information is there, you just need to look a bit to find it. For example, on the first two pages of the Spirit forum, and apart from Poinas' Pwning guide, I found:
