Everytime I start a new character I usually max both Masteries before allocating any skill points to actual skills. This puts you around level 22, I think, to max both Masteries.

Is this a good practice or does it depend on the Mastery combo?

For my Harbinger I actually spent some skill points on skills, such as Onslaught (8), Weapon Training (1) and Dual Wield (1) and Phantom Strike (1). This allows him to survive much better, but I wonder if it would have just been better dumping them into leveling Masteries.

For my Templar I decided to max Mastery levels first. We'll see how that works out. :)

Thanks,

I think it comes down to your weapons and survivability. With Warfare, there are such good skills (like you mentioned) that you get so quickly, it's hard not throwing points into them ASAP. I need Onslaught as soon as it's open. I might not put many points in it, but it gets 1 at least. And Weapon Training. I usually wait on DW for a while and use a shield. I also wait on PS, but that's just me. I might put points into a Trance first, especially if I'm working on the DW tree. DW+BS is sick enough for Normal and some of Epic. Just when you need it, PS in mid-epic through legendary is perfect.

I'm working on a Spellbreaker now and so far haven't dropped a point in any skills. Each Mastery is at 16/32. I've been lucky with weapons and gear that I feel comfortable not adding in skills yet. So that's my new goal with this build - complete both Masteries and then add skills. Probably stupid, but it's different at least.

Yeah, I love Onslaught! :)

I think I'll keep leveling Dream til I max it, then max Defense. If I run into survivability issues along the way I'll think about using points in skills :)

I usually do a 2/1 ratio of mastery/skill
