Great idea :) I have some question though:

1) do you mean ideas for a story/scenario or an idea for gameplay variant by modification?
2) will it be possible to write complex dialogues as in NWN or are we limited to story tellers in the way it is done in the demo?

I was gonna say, it seems like an awfully vague contest. A great idea, just so vague I wouldn't quite know where to start.

But, if anything is eligible under that word limit, I'll come up with something. :)

That's a tough word count to fit. I've got one pruned down from 265 words to 215 words but having a rough time whittling it down much more. But I'll keep trying and get my editor/wife to hack at it as well (it was much richer at 265 words).

PS. I guess it's an overview and Max isn't handing us the editor early, huh? :)

Hey Guys,

We just thought this would be something fun to try. This should just be a very brief overview. We dont expect there would be any specifics - just a basic plot line or idea. If it goes a little over 150 words its not the end of the world -think of it as a target length. We just are not going to have time to read 10 pages of summary per person. Somethig simple like you guys have been throwing around in the scenario ideas thread would be appropriate.

Just have fun with it.

Exactly 150 words now so here goes my official entry (perhaps the format isn't expected but it was fun for me, too much Steven Saylor I suppose) ... let's call it "The Temple and the Cats."

------------------------

You stand motionless under the bored gaze of an obese, perfumed, bureaucrat in Alexandria's main palace.

"I have no idea why Askopes would send such a soldier, but I suppose you’ll have to do.”

"You've heard the racket the priests are raising? The murders of so many cats within city walls? The strange tales the merchants tell along the eastern road? The priests swallowed by the desert? No? The missing unit of guards? Ah, now you understand." He smiled like a contented snake.

"You will go to the Temple of Bast near the Canopic Gate and ask for Ponthinus. He will tell you what the priests need done."

"A reward? Hmm. I suppose the palace will make suitable offerings at your funeral." He turns and waves you away. "You may leave now."

The city’s wide, straight, crowded boulevards and glaring sunlight guide you east to the temple, and your destiny.

------------------------

Good luck to all!

How about a mod of Jason and the golden fleece? I know most of it is on water, but I think it could easly be adapted to land. For example, on the crashing rocks part of the story, you could have a quest to find a dove and have rock moving back and forth in a cayon(of course I don't know how animated the editor will let you be) or better yet, you could have stone goloms, and you have to find a dove in order for you to pass. And another idea you can have a quest to escort the old woman(Hera), across a plan of vicious saytar shamans.

Julius and the remaining prisoners who had their ransom paid were thrown off the boat and left on the barren African beach.

"So what do we do now?" Prax said

"Find a port and go back to Rome I guess.." said Gladictus

"What are you talking about? Did you not hear what I said to Celsus? I told him I will get my family's hard earned money back and kill the bastd!" said Julius

"And how do you suggest we do that?" said Prax

"We gather some men, build a fleet and destroy him!"

"Your crazy! Look I want to kill the man too but as you can see we are very hopeless here." said Gladictus

With a little speech and some pride, Julius finally convinced him men to start the impossible journey...

You are sent by a troubled woman to find some villagers that never came back from Lumever's cave. Not only do you find out the remains of these men,but you discover traces of a ritual that has occured.

"Gheed has been missing for a week,(Gheed being a very powerful magician)find out his whereabouts,he lives in the forest, near The Dazzle Tree and the river.Don't worry you won't leave unrewarded."-Gheed's brother said.

You find out numerous books about Hades and one in particular is interesting;a book about sacrificial rituals. You bring back this book to the person who sent you,he realizes his brother's intentions.

"He has gone insane,he studied Hades so he could bring him to Earth! He will sacrifice himself to bring back Hades again!Everything is happening as foretold the prophecies!Hades will bring an army of minions to make Zeus regret his punishment, you must stop him at once!"

You(preferably with other friends)go back to Lumever's cave, which has several underground levels, with each level having harder and fiercer enemies to stop Hades.

This one ill probably make it miself once i get my hand on the editor, but ill be asking you guys a lot of questions..

-----

I personally like the idea of the was done in knights of the zodiac, so you helped by the god of earth, go fighting to the santuary of the zodiac night, where you have to go through mini bosses from each zodiac sign you can find on the sky, and at the end, you find yourself in the mother land of the knights, were you have to unplot why the holy patriarch has turned evil, and its sending all the knigth under his command to destroy the ones fighting for the true god of earth, which is not on the temple in the santuary. Mostly i like the part where you get to fight the 12 golden knights (each from a mayor zodiac sign, taurus, aries... and so on) to retreive the golden shield of the god of earth to save the god of earth which was hurt by an evil arrow and only the shield can remove it, these golden knights which have the best armors and wepons equiped, and are so powerfull, that one alone cannot be able to beat them, and each of them stronger that the previews.

If you dont know the story let me know and i will detail it, you know there are a lot of cool fights like the one on the frozen lands of vikings, and on the under water temple of Poseidon, and the fight in the hellish territory of Ades, and so on.

I mean, i know you'll say its not a unique idea, but since its a contest to a mod, and not to an unique idea, i think this mod should be really cool, i just hope there is a way to make a bad guy an put him whatever equipement we what him to have (to make him really powerfull)

Thats my mod idea, i you want and original story make another contest ;)

Men from an unknown land are seen foraging for wood and stone near the shores. Approached by spartan soldiers, they immediately attack. The battle fares well until an impressive looking mage strikes the ground. The earth splits open and shakes. Unknown beasts kill all but one spartan soldier. His tale makes it to town describing the mages staff which he hit the ground with. It contained a shimmering black rock.

Upon returning, the men were gone and all is quiet, but sightings of them occur here and there and evidence of their presence is seen. Meanwhile, the entire land experiences frequent earthquakes. Some causing heavy damage. Tide waters are raising at a staggering rate and huge damaging waves are frequent.

Meanwhile, the description of the magic rock makes it to an old sage who remembers hearing tales of such rock found in pirate caves near the southern coast that had power over the very earth. A trip to the town close to the caves reveal more info from shady characters for the right price. Info suggests the pirates mined a lot of this element and sold it to an unknown bunch of sailors who identified themselves as members of the Atlantean islands.

Further info states that the mine contains a nexus that borders the elemental plane of earth and once the miners dug too deep, the mine became flooded with unknown beasts from the earth plane forcing the miners to flee leaving much treasure behind. No one has reached the bottom of the cave since and made it out alive although treasure seekers sometimes foolishly take the risk.

The town sage states that the ore may be able to be shaped into weapons or protective magic items that protect against these planar invaders.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Atlantean islands fail as huge waves and unsailable waters protect the land. Which is described as being huge. The Atlanteans are raising the earth under their islands to make a new continent, building new cities and preparing for war. The land is ruled by the Atlantean mages with conquest on their minds. They rule their land with fear and power. The land has many unknown beasts and the buildings are of unique Atlantean design. Mage runes cover most everything and a great mage spire can be seen throughout the land.

Can the Atlantean mages be stopped? Is there a way to the continent? Could a brave band locate and fly on the back of the mighty Pegasus to get to the island?

And if successful, is there a way to save the innocent Atlanteans? Or will they all perish when the land sinks into the abyss of the ocean?

I'll take a hack...I guess

So there I was standing off of the road taking a leak, when all of a sudden Hades appears before me. Boy is he ugly. Anyways, he starts rambling on about not doing that, making him mad, polluting the River Styx, etc. I wasn't listening much to what he said. Either way, in his ire, he teleported us down in the very depths of the underworld. So, now I either accept my fate of never seeing my wonderful topside again, or...I take on the entire underworld in a massive escape attempt. "That's a no brainer" I think to myself. Lets get mythical!

Alrighty...less than 150 words. That was fun.

The maze of death.

2-6 Players enter, only 1 survives and gets the loot. The maze is divided in 2-6 sections. Everyone starts in the first part and has to find their way to the middle. Once all but 1 player are there, the door to that room closes and only the ones in the room can advance to the next part. The player who didn't make it, can stay in the hallways or leave the game and join another.
This process repeats itself until one person is left, who can then advance to the treasure room which has some chests and/or a boss for loot.

You could adjust the maps to the amount of players that are in game. 2 Players will only have 2 rooms (maze + loot room) so you don't have to go through 5 more maze rooms on your own without any competition.
Or you could have the doors close when 2 or more people are left out. Another option would be to allow more than 1 player to advance to the loot room and split the loot.

Edit: If there is PvP, you can have people kill eachother in the center room or hallways instead of racing to the center room before others get there.

Since the Olympics started in Greece why not have a wrestling contest.

This is a one time deal (per difficulty level) and you must Pin or kill your opponent (in ancient times people would often get broken bones or even die)

You wrestle a level one Olympian opponent NO Weapons! Unarmed combat!
If you win that contest you get points for Strength and Dexterity.

If choose to move on to the next level opponent for each you defeat you get more points as a reward….until you reach the match up with the Champ from the last Olympics. At this point the reward will be some perminate resistance or % chance to escape danger or get some extra % special damage (which no enemy can defend against)

I would have said the reward should be a special Olympic medal or Belt but I get a feeling there will be a TON of special items to collect.

Indiana jones in a new world

In 1942, indiana jones discovers in a secret pyramid, deep inside a sand flooded city in egypt, a unique artifact. After 3 months, he discovers how to activate it. At his own risk, he does. He founds himselve to be transported to a second reality, an ancient world with gods and magic.

[here you start]
Landing in the middle of a tigerclan called kash'an, you have to work your way up as a combatslave. With indie's combat experience, you will find ur selve quickly beyond the higher ranks. The more time passes, the more you find out about an artifact almost simular to the one at home. Could it take you back?
To gain more knowledge about this artifact, you have to get the clan a sword, called "the dawn of men". This should help them crush there enemies.
After you get the sword, you are told the artifact is located in a pyramid far along the river.
Can you get indiana home?

Point of the mod is to not only place the focus on combat and items, but also alot on puzzle's and riddle's. You will get alot of hints in your quest book, but you will have to figure alot of things out by urself :).

An eternal winter has set over the lands, turning water to ice and killing many animals and crops. It has been said that the winter was caused by a mythical creature dwelling deep within the mountains. With people dying of starvation, many desperate warriors have ventured into the mountains to find the creature, yet none have ever come out. You are among the last warriors, and soon you will have no choice but to venture forth yourself...

I would love a mod based on Norse mythology, so the above was written with that in mind. I think there'd be a lot of mythology to draw from, like Loki, frost giants, etc. Plus, I love snowy environments.

The Battle of Issus

Campaign of Alexander the Great
>Player Character fights alongside Alexander the Great

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/Battle_issus_movements.gif

The Battle of Issus (elements: Epic Battle, Timed Trials, A great wonder)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Issus
-This is a historical battle. I chose it for its geography. It is in a mountain region, which makes mapping much easier than open wide open fields, and fits the players objectives below.
-The player participates in an epic battle led by Alexander the Great to reclaim The Temple of Artemis, one of the sever wonders of the world. The player is a supreme Spartan, and must accomplish some tasks away from the rest of the battle to ensure victory. With a small group of other Spartans (3 and player) they take off and must accomplish certain goals. The requirements include bringing explosives to create a landslide on the side of a cliff, cutting off supplies and troops, and taking out a spell-caster trying to summon a giant creature. The player fails but if the player has accomplished his other tasks in time, Alexander the great will show up and help defeat the epic monster. If the player is too slow, he won't accomplish the goals in time, and will fail the mission. Once the enemy is vanquished and the temple is taken, the player may enter the temple and interact with a statue. A god will grant an epic item to the player.
(As a possible type of Cinematic, the player strides forward through the empty hall with music blasting.)

-Unique Art:
> The Wonder of the Temple of Artemis
> Perisan War Elephants

note: I tried to remain historically accurate. The battle of Issus and the Temple of Artemis are both in Turkey, but not right next to each other. Persian war elephants weren’t employed at this stage of the Persian war, but they were later. Still these are stretches of the fact, rather than being wrong.

note 2: I went over word count, but the main battle description is almost 150 words. That the central point of my idea, and if the word limit is strict, ignore the rest.
