View Full Version : [User Interface] BigBarsUI

Hello!

This is my first modification for Titan Quest Immortal Throne and so it is pretty simple. Since I started playing TQ:IT I always found it distracting to glance at the top left corner of the screen to see my health and mana levels, and when I occasionally play on my 37 inch 1080p TV the distance my eyes have to travel is greatly increased.:eek:

So I created this simple User Interface modification that moves the health and mana bars to the top of the toolbar.

I removed the animated character portrait, moved the status icons to the area above the mana bar, and changed the low health pulse warning to a red glow around the entire health/mana region.

*I suggest using the custom maps version located at the bottom of the post. I am leaving these links for people who might want the source files.

This is my first release of this mod so if there are any problems please let me know!

ps. I wasn't sure where to post User Interface modifications so I put it in here. I am planning on making some more complete conversion type User Interfaces so maybe a new section would be nice :rolleyes:

With the latest fan patch this mod will fail to work so here is an updated version compatible with the 1.17a fan patch.

Hey there! Good work.. I use a 30" monitor and now i'm not killing my eyes or multitasking to monitor health. It's right there in front of me where I can always see it and it's so big! Yay!

It worked like twice before this happened. I'm not sure if steam reset it or what. I'm sure I followed your advice by the letter.

That is the fault of the fan patch. Try using my fan patch compatibility upload found on the bottom of the first post.

kk after getting it to work and running it for 4 hours straight tonight, let me offer you some constructive criticism.

I like it, I really do. It works great. But theres two things bothering me.

A.) There is no buff bar. This really came into play in my Act IV test. Got hit with Skill Disruption and didnt know what I had running. Remember only the last activated aura shows.

B.) As a custom map, several TQDefiler mods like Show All Damage don't work properly. Could you not make it port out to the main menu like XMAX?

A) Strange. I put the buff bar above the mana bar. Another member was having problems with placement due to his large resolution monitor. What resolution are you playing? The buff by might be hidden behind your mana bar.

B) I would really like to build my mod in this manner, but I can't figure out how. Is there a how-to somewhere on the forums here? I read something about making a blank map or something but I don't really know how to implement that.

Yeah, you need a blank map for you mod.

Open the editor (editor.exe). Choose your mod in the drop down menu, select the maps folder and enter the file name for your blank map, so that CustomMaps\YourModName\Source\Maps\YourMapName.wrl is the full path (the file name of the map is later shown in the mod selection screen in the game). Press the OK button. Save All and exit the editor. Start ArtManager and open your mod. Right click the .wrl file in the maps folder of the sources tab of your mod, select Auto-Create Asset and press OK. Now you can build the mod.

Had the same problem as TEK on older machine. Basically it doesn't scale right. You can see the buffs at 1280x1024 but they overlap the bar, anything lower and they are hidden behind the huge bar.

I like the whole flashy thing but I had to get down to like 100hp for it to activate

I didn't change the threshold of the low health warning just the location. At least I didn't mean to. I will double check if there are any values for that.

Thanks for the info on the resolutions. I am trying to figure out how they manage to get the buffs to stay put on the vanilla ui so it helps to see the many different resolutions that people will be using. I have to test in window mode of course but I don't think it makes a difference. I didn't really think people still play at such low resolutions but there ya go ;P

It's pretty weird that you guys have that buff issue, I've been playing the game at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 and both look fine, haven't run into that issue myself. My brother on the other hand, has when running it at 1280x1024.

Kirii

I think there is a flag or something for when you are playing in a widescreen resolution, including both 16:10 and 16:9, and for when you are in a non-widescreen resolution. As you notice when you are selecting a res there is a (widescreen) tag. Digging through the dbrs today to see if I can find anything.

Still working on it but for now here is a quick fix.

I moved the icons back to the upper left corner. They will be visible on any resolution.

I'm trying to get this to work permanently but it's not working. I have the fanpatch 1.17a installed and downloaded the version of your BigBarsUI which is compatible with it. However I only got it to work if I install the mod as a custom map (option A). Also in this case, running at 800x600 (or whatever) the health and mana bars were out of place.

If I want to make it work permanently (option B) nothing changes.

I think the mistake is in replacing the database.arz in the custommap database folder with the file in the TQIT database folder, then running it through ArtManager and putting it back to TQIT database folder.

Can you suggest what I'm doing wrong? Or can you explain this step by step please?
I'd really like to use this mod since, yeah, most of the times I'm really looking at the health bar when playing and missing all the action... This mod would be a keeper.

Just that I think the character's portrait should be incorporated back in the interface, maybe you can leave that and the buffs where they were originally and just move the health and mana to the lower UI?

There could be a few things you have set up wrong. Let's see if we can figure it out.

1) In ArtManager under Tools->Options do you have your Titan Quest folder and Immortal Throne Working Database folder in the Additional Browse Directories?

Mine looks like this: "D:\Program Files\Titan Quest\;D:\Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\Working\Database\"

To have both directories you have to separate them with a semi-colon. Try locating both of these folders on your system and adding them.

2) Are you doing step four in the read-me correctly? If nothing is changing at all when try Installation B it leads me to think you actually didn't change anything in the database.arz. The only way this would happen is if you forgot to rename your database.arz to bigbarsui.arz when you copy it to your custommaps folder. Remember to copy it to your "Documents~Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\custommaps\BigBarsUI\database" folder and not your working folder.

3) Did you copy the Textures.arc file to your Immortal Throne Resources folder?

My best advice is going through the read-me step by step again and double checking you did each one right.

Another option is using the custommaps version at the bottom of the first post. You will have to choose it every time you start playing but the installation is really easy.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't really help you with the resolution problem at the moment. I am still working on making a low res version and a high res version. Do you really play at 800x600? The only time I play at that resolution is in window mode while at work so noone can see that I am playing:lol:
Lastly for the character portrait. The element is tied to the health and mana bars (but not the status icons) so if I add it back it will have to be at the bottom of the screen. I almost put it were the shield is but chose not to since your toon was just a few inches above it. Felt kind of redundant.r
If this thread is still up, I have exactly the same problems in that the database.arz file does not change after you replace the bigbarsui.arz with the fanpatch database.arz. The artmanager recognises its there, because you do get the pop-up asking if you want to remove unwanted files, but even after building, nothing happens. Using a hash compare tool, I've proved that the arz file remains unchanged from the original you copy in.
I think this could be a permissions issue with windows vista/7.
This mod looks really great and I'd love to try it but I just can't seem to get it to work. On step 4, there doesn't seem to be a custommaps\BigBarsUI folder to put the original database.arz into. There's a custommaps folder in the install directory with the BigBarsUI folder which I put the database.arz into though.
I do the rest of the steps but when I run the game there's a white background in the menu screen when I select my character and it gets stuck loading after I select him. I think I did something wrong with ArtManager. Can someone show me where I went wrong? Thanks.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and have never experienced this problem. I have admin rights and UAC disabled though. Did you fully close the Art Manger before you copied and renamed the file? I always make sure to close art manager before I manipulate any of the files in the working folder or custom maps folder. I have run into problems before when I didn't completely exit.
You can also use the custom maps version of the mod which does not require any work with the art manager.
There should not be a custommaps folder in your install directory! The custommaps should be located in your My Documents folder only. I would recommend deleting any custommaps folder in your install directory, put your original database.arz back into the Database folder in Immortal Throne install directory, and run TQIT and make sure your menu is working and you can load a game.
From there you can try to install my mod again. All I can really say is to follow my included directions to the "T" and double check every step.
I also recommend that you try my custommaps install version of my mod. It is located on the main post at the bottom.
Hey love your mod but I was wondering if I could change the color of it from gold to silver to match the UITheme_TQIT_JMD mod. I have the ARCexplorer. Just need to know the name of the arc file and the name of the tex file in that. Guess I could then change the color in photoshop.
Hi Kirii, great mod you have done there. I'm really appreciated your hard-working as well as clear explanation on the installation.
I've successfully done the permanent installation from the file you posted in the first post but I do have the problem of no status icon since I'm playing in 1280x800 widescreen (that is the highest I can go with in window mode since I'm playing on a 15inch Macbook).
I'm happy with this quick fix from you but I cant figure how to install this following your installation on post #1. When I extracted the downloaded file, I got 1 folder called bigbarsui. I have no clue where should I place it. It's very kind of you if you can guide me again, based on the your installation guide from the first post (which steps are different).
I'm very excited to fully enjoy your wonderful mode, and of course surely waiting for the completed Diablo UI.
A bit out of topic, actually couldnt wait anymore so I tested it on the custommaps one and looks amazingly awesome. But I do love playing in xmod so I guess I have to be waited qhite a moment for a permanent installation u_u
Cheers,
Kirii
Oh boy! I am so sorry for such a late reply!
I wouldn't worry about using the bigbarsui folder I posted with the fix. The fix is very easy and can be done during the permanent install process.
After you open the Big Bars UI mod in Art Manager go to the database tab. Under records->ingameui->player hud and find the hudplayerstatusicons.dbr.
Open the .dbr for editing and change the ActiveHudAreaX and Y to 5 and 35. That will put the icons back in the upper left corner.
Then continue the permanent install as normal.
Hope you didn't give up on me and stop using my UI! Sorry again for the late reply.
Thanks, at last you freed us from this awkward health/mana placement (lack of) design and it's a huge improvement. :clap:
One thing though, there might be an issue with the BigBarsUI_Fan_Patch_1.17a_Compatible_1.zip package (filesmelt link). Tried and tried following every step of the permanent install instructions without being able to install it. Finally downloaded the BigBarUI Fan Patch 1.17a Compatible (MU link) and it worked perfectly on first try.
With the latest fan patch this mod will fail to work so here is an updated version compatible with the 1.17a fan patch.
Does this work with Patch 1.30? I can't get it to display properly. It moves the buff icons and bars down, but my hp/mana bars are not displaying correctly. They are stacked on top of one another [like the default UI] and not 1 on each side of the shield?
Has developement stopped on this? Love the UI (the pics anyway), since the default one is horrible..
Kirii
07-07-2011, 07:14 PM
rotax, the current version is not compatible with official patch 1.30. I have built it using the latest unofficial patch which merges the database files so you will having missing parts such as the health/mana bars.
I recommend removing my ui, installing the 1.17a patch, and re-installing my ui. Unless you are not playing with the expansion? It is possible to build my ui into the original TQ without the expansion but it can be quite a process.
I seem to be having a problem. When I download the mod , it seems OK. When I try to extract it to the Custom Folder, it shows nothing to extract. I'm using winzip for extracting. Is it just 4k? I have all the various X-mods in the folder, and they work fine. Just can not get this mod to extract. I have patch 1.17a.
Any advise would be appreciated.
A young person named LMunhoz directed me to this thread and so far I am happy. The mediafire link you gave me worked fine. I have it in custommap folder. Need to add your fix for the icons, but i expect I need to install the whole mod-sigh. I do like to use the x mods at times. What is the DiabloUI?
Thank for the help. I was using the easy custommap version at the beginning of the thread when I got the 4k.
The mediafire link under "Big Bars with Iron Cross Cursor (Easy Install for 1.17 fanpatch)" in the first post is very easy to install. It is a full database built using the 1.17a fanpatch so you just have to replace you current database file in your TQ folder and add the texture.arc file. The instructions are in the mod. Then xmod should work as normal as a custommaps.
(ps the filesmelt link worked fine for me. must have been you browser/downloader not liking filesmelt.)
The custommaps version of Bigbars should work with a full underlord install. The easy install database replace version would have to be merged with underlord in order to work.
Also, it would be a little work but you could restore the old ui to underlord if you don't like the color. I suggest asking in the underlord section. Once you restore the old ui you can install my custommaps BigBarsUI and it will match the color scheme better.
