View Full Version : Too Late

I really hate to be the jerk to say it, but let's face it - this mod has been delayed to extinction. It was nearly ready months ago and the author got obsessed with making sure every single thing was perfect for one big release instead of doing it in increments, and the release never came to pass.
Now Torchlight is out, a new Diablo clone from a healthy company which is going to have officially supported mod tools for the community, and the promise of an MMO based on it at a later date. It has has so much more to offer to a community than Titan Quest ever did, and the possibility of any real fanfare and support that could've been paid to the Occult Mod is now looking pretty bleak, even if it does get released soon.
And it's sad. This is the kind of thing that really could've gotten noticed on a larger scale like the Civilization 4 mod Fall from Heaven, which in itself has its own modmods like Fall Further.
I do wish Munder all the best and I know this is going to be seen as unsupportive and inflammatory, but I think there's a lesson to be learned here.

There will alwas be a reason to come back to TQ and when you do Occult Mod might be the thing that breaths new life in it, without feeling likes its a totaly new gameplay like other mods are trying to do (Paths comes to mind).
New items, locations, new skills, balanced gameplay, TQ feel.
It might have taken Munder a long time in the end, but if it's really good it won't fade away like the Masteries Mod did for me, which was as unbalanced and broken as could be, it only looked nice.....
So, just keep on playing TL and D3 when it comes out, but remember sooner or later you might get that TQ-itch again......
By then Occult might be looking mighty tasty.....

I don't agree with the OP.
While Torchlight is a nice little game, it's just that. Little. It is much too shallow to draw my interest away from TQ. Lesser graphics, very limited amount of skills and none of them original. Lots of balance and user-friendly issues, not to mention the crapload of bugs the game still has. Everyone's been praising the toolset and what the mods can make with that, while it hasn't even been released yet.
I was already done with TQ many months ago though. Only been using it for testing and modmaking; but, I'm pretty sure Occult will make me regain interest in playing TQ. It did so before, but I stopped playing that because it was a beta. I've been relatively close to seeing the development and from what I know, it's going to be a huge addition to the game.
It might as well be that the diablo fever sparked by Torchlight causes people to look into TQ and find the Occult mod.

I have also stopped playing Titan Quest for a few months but I plan to return as soon as Underlord has been released.:D
The Occult mod reinvigorated the game for me and I hope for others as well.:)

I have stopped TQ just to begin when Occult comes out the beta was so great it's a shame that it's taking so long but lets say how longer it takes how better it gets?
But to make sure this thing dasent get lost in Munders harddrive can't we ask him to send a copy to yerky so it will be safe if munder disides to quit making the mod and others can continue the work? well i haven't heard from any progress with the Occult mod so...
I just love the idea of beginning a champion and start over whit no stuf and just go to the new inproved game Munder has worked so hard on and we all should be so gratefull for!
Hail Munderbunny!

In Aussie land today it is the 23rd, ive wait for this mod for most of the year now another day wont hurt =P.
I do have a question tho, Will i need the Community Fan patch installed before installing the mod?
yerkyerk
11-22-2009, 06:09 PM
Well, I have the honour of creating the installer :)
Depends on how hard it'll be to make. I prefer to make one that is compatible with both 1.1 and the 1.17 fanpatch. Though it doesn't hurt to install the 1.17 fanpatch, as its already built on that version of tqit..

Don't count on it :) It'll be released pretty soon now, but the exact deadline might not be made. Or it might be..
Heh, rereading the OP is funny.. well, sorta. I already lost most of my interest in TL and haven't played it for about 2 weeks now...
I actually can't imagine the game holding the attention of any hardcore, non-modding aRPG fan for very long.

We've kinda been knowing that since what feels like the dawn of man. Actually the dinosaurs might not have been extinguished, they were maybe merely tired to death from hitting the reload button in this forum while waiting for the mod to come out. :D
I'm going to roll a Hunter/Occult toon. :p

After posting the changelog yesterday, I set the mod to transfer to Yerkyerk. I see this morning that the transfer is complete. As soon as Yerkyerk is done making the installer, he'll send it back to me to test. If it looks good, it will be released. However, this is all mostly in Yerkyerk's capable hands now. Yerkyerk and Jiaco have full access to the modpage now, and you can look to them for updates and tidbits.
As far as the status of the mod--how complete it is, I'll say 99%. I was reminded this morning, doing a quick run through the blood cave, that no matter how hard I look, there's always something I've missed. In this case, I missed a bowl of fruit. It will be obvious to those of you who stumble upon it. This inappropriately placed bowl of fruit was a placemarker that I forgot about, for 4 full months, only to notice it this morning after I already sent the mod off to Yerkyerk. So, over the next few weeks, I expect more bowls of fruit to be brought to my attention.
As far as the 99% goes, that final 1% are things I didn't want to delay the mod over. For example, I have a problem with monster vocalization; I'll call it "chanting." I believe it may be a problem with the randomization, but when you set monsters to have a chance to vocalize, groups of them are more likely to vocalize at the same time. Even with a relatively low chance to activate. This happens a lot with the Machae I notice now, but it's less obvious as they're speaking gibberish. Players will notice this more in the Blood Cave, where monsters will vocalize in English--there's really only one particular area where it's excessive. So, that's the kind of thing that was left unresolved for now. Nothing that will affect gameplay--just a few minor cosmetic issues like that.
Anyway, my work for now is DONE! And I enjoy the sweet comfort of knowing that all the pressure's on Yerkyerk now. :D
Munder made his deadline.:D
Now it's all up to Yerkyerk.

Wasn't Uber 1.1 supposed to be released with this? Where is it?
I just can't do vanilla difficulty, even if it's slightly pimped by Underlord, it's like cutting through butter with a lightsaber...
IIRC, Munder said on moddb that he'll try to get the uber version done by december. Merry christmas I guess. :)

Waiting yet another month... :(
The download is done. I'm currently sitting in university, waiting for psychology to start. Including my way home, this means that I'll be able to play in approximately 3 hours.
This is both :errf: and  at the same time. :/

Yea - but I would advice you to back those files up. Or simply copy the whole TQIT map if you don't want the hassle and disk space is not a problem.

Ok, so I've searched all over the moddb.com site, and even looked in the UnderLord's page, and I am not able to find the manual files on the site. Does this mean that I was "too late" to get the files, or does this mean that the installer is finished and working now, and I just need to be patient so that I can get the installer version of the mod?
Also, anyone know when the Uber version of this mod is going to be released? Will we see it before Uber 1.1 comes out, or not until (hopefully) December when UberMod 1.1 is scheduled for release?

Way too hard for a level 1 character. especially melee one.
Slow exp gain, too much enemy. Underlord +Vanilla difficulty edition would be good.
waiting for Underlord(occult) 1.2
Nah. Not too hard imo. :)
It'd feel morally wrong to be some random dude that arrived in a nutshell with a knife and PWNS satyrs right from the start.
Moreover, the first mastery choice has a huge impact on starting speed. My Pyromancer isn't slow at all- he just has to be alittle more carefull, or he'll end up gangraped by a few crows.:p
As a meleer...well, it's not a shame to use bows early on.
yerkyerk
11-25-2009, 09:23 AM
Heh, yea Munder made most masteries more powerful; in order to balance stuff, creatures are also more powerful. This means that mastery choices have a bigger impact on the game.
