i wouldnt mind the answer!

seriously tho ive pretty much gone through all of epic, and only about 3-4 purple items have dropped, is this right?? or am i just completely unlucky!? cos right now my battlemage is completely under performing because i have such poor weapons/equipement, im no where near ready to meet typhon.

i kinda thought that epic was supposed to help you out abit with givin u better stuff, obviously i was mistaken.

Do you have TQIT or just TQ? There is a fanpatch 1.17 that works with the expansion that helps with drop rates. 3-4 purple items by the end of Act 3 of Epic is not that horrible a drop rate. It's not unusual to go most of the way through Act 1 without seeing a purple. If I go for awhile without a purple drop in Epic or Legendary, I chalk it up to a bad item seed and restart the game.

Someone with knowledge of the inner-workings of the loot tables and drop calculations might be able to come up with an exact drop rate for purples. I'd be interested/discouraged to see one ;) .

We might be able to give you some pointers with your battlemage to help enhance your build, if you'd like. I know from experience how frustrating the hybrid melee builds can be.

i have TQ:IT. ill look into that fan patch but for now i guess ill have to farm for some items and hope some useful stuff comes up! cheers.

i have a feeling the problem with my battlemage cant be reversed. im level 48 right now and my health is just over 3500, and i know thats pretty dam low, the problem is i dont have enough health to sustain an attack for long and i also don't think i deal enough damage for the level that i am. i dont think i placed my attribute points correctly, but you live and learn!

ive started a new character and she's a conqueror so i wont make the mistake with her lol.

I have TQ and i found between 10 to 20 purple items but 3 or4 same items and i found the whole batlemage set and most item drops were from Talos in act 1 and Dragon Liche in act 3 the valey of the kings is not a bad place to search all tombs there so good luck finding them there:D

thanks for the info on where you got the purples, ill hit talos and the dragon liche up pronto, altho if my memory serves talos is one hell of a bugger on epic!

i also read alot of threads and they said that alot of good equipment can be farmed at the scorpion king just outside of fayum....altho yet again my luck has deserted me lol must have farmed him about 10 times not a single good piece of equipment...this game just doesn't want me to succeed! :p

Good choice on rolling a Conqueror... lots of killing potential and survivability with that build. And the toon can be dumber than a box of rocks.... BONUS!!!

I'm curious about your Battlemage... I had one that got sent to the scrap heap because of attribute distribution that became unmanageable. Just a couple of questions about it:

1) What are your Offensive and Defensive Ability stats?
2) What are your Str/Dex/Int stats?
3) How many unused attribute points do you have (if any)?

3-4 purple items throughout Epic TQ is not that much, but I don't think you should complain about it. The dropping rate of purple items is indeed as you thought not as high as many people want. But thats just the same with blue items and formulas. And just as you need to "farm" to get those you need to "farm" to get purple items. It also gives you additional experience to have a better chance at defeating Typhon and the enemies in Act 4.

So: if you want purple items: be patient and make lots of runs to kill bosses like the cyclops, the telkines, the manticore... practicually every place you know where you know for sure where you can find a majestic chest or more than 1 chest each time.

yea i know patience is a virtue, but it also feels to me that when i do farm...(and i do it quite abit as my battelmage is just so underpower right now) i dont even get any good gear!...but i'll fight on

Buy4now, here are my stats with me DW with a rimescythe and silence:

off ability: 709
def ability: 460

av damage: 369
dps: 551

hlth: 4000
str: 596
dxt: 361
int: 130's

no attribute points saved, soon as i get them i put them on lol

i wouldnt know if these stats are good or bad, but i guess there not great for a lvl 48 battlemage, battlemage was my fist ever character and i never really thought of the importance to actually plan the character. also i do blame some of my gear, my greaves, helmet and armguards really aren't up to scratch and don't offer me much in strength or dmg boosts.

You have boosted to much str. it would be better to boost a little int. i mean you are a mage after all and there are many items for earth mastery that request int. like the firewalkers set or the pyromancer set if you need some info about items check this site http://www.gamebanshee.com/titanquest/ it will help you a lot.

well you see im more of a melee type player so i kind of concentrated mainly on str so i could do max damage and all the other threads say if you want to be a melee type player leave int out, but i do see where your coming from.

quick update: i just met the telkine in act 3 epic and actually beat him very comfortably, so maybe my battlemage isn't all that bad? but...yet again the guy dropped me no epic equipement!! what a douche!! :D

now to see how my battlemage handles against epic typhon!

another update lol: i just beat typhon epic again pretty damn easily......but NO epic gear!! just some crappy relics!! oh well

Grats on beating Epic Typhon! He tends to be easier than his Normal counterpart, but any dead boss is a good boss. Your attribute stats are very good for a melee/damage focused battlemage. You probably won't get much pop from your Earth nukes unless you start pumping int, but you can work with the melee/pet aspect of your build and become quite powerful.

I've got some suggestions on your gear, based on the info you shared:

The Rimescythe weapon is not doing anything for you, since you're not a Storm toon (even with them, it has limited use). Silence is a better weapon, but probably won't outperform socketed green weapons that you're finding. Your DPS is not as good as stated, because Rimescythe is adding 45 DPS in the form of energy leech that's thrown in the mix. Although, the 7.5% chance of flat cold damage will help that stat, but not by much. A Veteran [axe, club, sword] of Devouring and a Relentless [axe, club, sword] of Devastation will be socketable and do more than the purples you have now. Socket them with Epic Act 3 relics that reduce enemy resistances, and you're doing some major damage. I suggest farming the area after the second waypoint in Act 3... the mobs there have a high drop rate for green weapons/gear.

Fortunately, you've kept up your dexterity to equip the faster weapons... woot! This gives you access to Gorgon Monster Infrequents. I'd suggest farming the gorgon sisters in Act 1 of Epic. That run will yield tremendous benefits (with some patience) -- Hallowed Crowns (+1 all skills w/ high vitality resistance... perfect for Act 4), Stonebinder Cuffs (%elemental resistance, +2 all skills, random affix). Veteran Gorgon Sashes (%damage resistance, %DA, %Chance to Avoid Projectiles). The majestic chest will have random goodies as well. The 3 gorgon MIs listed should open up the game for your toon... +3 skills, good resistances, socketable. I'd suggest socketing the torso armour with Epic Yung-Gu's Grace for added Defensive Ability (your DA is quite low for late Epic... mobs in Act 4 will be averaging OA of 500-800, which puts you at a severe disadvantage with a DA of 460). You might find this post helpful for OA/DA discussion....

http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/34586-Defensive-Offensive-Ability-of-mobs

At level 48, your build could look like this (all skills are 3 short of the top range of titancalc to account for the +3 to skills from gear): http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.asp?mastery=Battlemage&master1=1&master2=3&sa=12&m1=32-1-0-5-1-0-1-1-13-0-1-5-0-0-0-1-0-1-1-5-0-0&m2=32-3-1-5-3-1-3-5-3-0-7-1-3-3-0-3-0-3-3-3-5-0

The build has a strong Core Dweller, maxed Battle Standard/Triumph, War Horn, and a good start on your Ancestral Warriors. Spending some "quality time" with the Gorgon Ladies and the Ichthian in Act 3 will really pay off for you.

wow that's brilliant info, i never thought of half that. i always guessed the epic weapons were always better because, well they're epic.

yea my build does look very similar to the one you posted, i maxed out my earth enchantment tho and that tree has been critical in helping me boost my damage. i havent really paid much attention to the core dweller. in the beginning of epic i started to put points on him but i found rather quickly that he was pretty much useless, he died far to frequently and was doing about 40-60 damage, so i figured points on him were being wasted. but will that be the case in legendary?

also about battle standard, ive put a few points on but is it important? because im such a melee type player on this game i usually forget about half the skills i can use while actually playing, and i rarely use battle standard, not because i dont want to, but by the time ive started to fight the monsters there seems to be not much point in using it. there either dead or im dead!

after your suggestions buy4now ive just farmed the places you said for the last hour or so and your right alot of decent stuff came up, im wondering if i could get your opinion on a couple of things:

firstly i took off the rimescythe once i had got "veterans titan blade of haste" from those icthian dudes, it offers
+26% damage
+16% OA
+25% attack speed

im wonderin tho what should i socket it with, the best i have right now is embodiment of anubis wrath which gives 9% damage converted to health and 21-32 fire damage. should i socket it now or should i wait and see if i can get anything better in act 4 or farm some other areas?

secondly those gorgan queens gave me some cool crowns, the best i got was one that gave
+59% vit damage resis
+24 str
+1 to health regen
+1 to all skills

again im not sure what to socket it with, the best two relics i have are

embodiment of Hericles might
+24 str
+215 health

and Embodiment of sets betrayal
+9& pierce damage
33% chance of 90 pierce retalliation
24-30 piercing damage.

im wondering which ones would work better?

oh and finally i got an epic item! it was Aristotle's armour, only thing it wasnt better then what i already had haha

Hubba, hubba, those gorgon queens have been good to you. That's a solid set of gear for an hour's work... grats on that. You'll need to dump your Silence weapon ASAP... you've probably reached the attack speed cap for dual wielders of 199% or you're very close. You might be at the cap when you're standing still... which means you're probably getting nothing from your Ardor skill but the movement speed boost when Onslaught is active. A nice slow moving club or average axe will do the trick to average your attack speed down. Since your base piercing damage will take a hit when you replace the very fast sword, the Embodiment of Sets Betrayal loses its appeal as a relic.

My rule of thumb is... armour needs to be defensive and weapons need to be offensive. Sounds obvious, but Juggernaut and Mountaineer armour affixes can create "glass cannon" builds. I'd suggest a Veteran's affix for your torso armour (or a blue/purple piece of armour with a high DA affix). Eventually, the Veteran's armour will give way to better blue/purple options down the road. So I'd recommend a pure defensive/resistance relic for your armour -- Udjat of Horus with %pierce resistance on head, Yung-Gu's Grace with DA on torso.

I'd recommend socketing your titan blade with Anubis' Wrath now... the flat fire damage will go well with a fast attack speed. There are some relics in Act 4 that might work well (%Total Damage being one possibility), but you should have enough money to break the old relic off by then.

If you happen to get an "of the Glade" affix to any armour the gorgon queens drop, I'd suggest holding onto it. Many of those come with a "Purifying" prefix, which will make them twice as useful against Cerebrus in the next act.

well right now my chest armour is mantle of saj'un and it offers so much good stuff, so ill probs keep with that for a while. and i did as you say took off silence and put on a veterans rhapalon of prowess which has some great offensive %, and my OA and dps has increased already.

can i ask where you can check all the limit caps ie attack speed etc...

Attack Speed:http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/14231-Attack-Speed-Caps-The-Real-Deal?highlight=speed+caps
Movement Speed:http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/34719-Movement-Speed-cap?highlight=movement+Speed

The attack speed is averaged for dual wielders and shown on the first page of your character screen. If your onslaught skill is active, then the effects of Ardor will be shown as well.

Nice resists on that chest armour. I'd keep an eye on your DA stat... battlemages have no way of boosting it from skills, but desparately need it to stay competitive with mobs in melee.

in regards to my DA, i have two rings which both gove 30+ strength and combined give me an extra 500 health, do you think i should sacrifice one of them and buy a ring with a + DA attribute and sacrifice one of my strength rings?
