View Full Version : Editing characters

I found my character saves, the .chr files. I was wondering what I could use to tweak my characters a bit, if at all possible. Now, of course, I could use that to cheat, and I will. But I was also thinking about if I could tweak skill levels incase I wanted to untrain a skill after playing the game for along time. Is there anything I can use?

I was using notepad, but I think it's a hex file, so what's that about?

Not even going get into the cheating part of your post because you will end up hating me.

You can unlearn skills in game just so you know... it cots money but you can do it none the less.

Nah, I'd probably laugh. Being a stickler on the rules for a PC game kind of seems funny, I mean, it is a game. Games are meant to be enjoyed so I can do whatever I want to enjoy the game. ;)

Which NPC and where is he located?

Delphi for example they are blue dots on the minimap and called mystics.

You cant edit savegame files without render them useless. I think thats because of an unique hash(or something like that) :P which is to protect the file from being altered.

Well that's not any fun.

You will have to wait for someone to crack the algri so these unique "code" can be generated by the character editor itself. But it may take some time till you see such a thing.

Meanwhile just farm to get nice items. :P

But I'm not a farmboy, I grew up in the suburbs!

Is there an official developers thread or something where I could request that type of stuff from the Devs?

Shark
07-06-2006, 10:56 PM
They wont do that, because they dont want people to cheat, that why they added the protection in the first place. :P

I bought the game. If I want to cheat I should be able to. Period. I don't need the forum fun police trying to say that I am not allowed to. THQ/Lion could care less if we cheat, they want to sell copies, that is it.

I don't think they're concerned about people cheating. There are set parameters for the retail version of the game, me editing it further for my own purposes isn't cheating, unless it's affecting other people. Gotta keep it in perspective, ;) .

There is in fact already a character editor out. Haven't tried it myself. I think it's linked from the gameplay forum.

As for questions for devs, did it occur to you to look at the forum index? :)

Ehm this is a singleplayer game in all means, but still your singleplayer character is used online too, so if you cheat and then go online you are affecting the legit players too.
So thats why they also dont build in any cheat codes... Not that its doing any good without closed like servers. But there is still Singleplayer... I wonder how long D2 would have survived with just Singleplayer though. lol
Just wanted to make that clear, because wont stop you from anything.

Ok tested it myself and you can now hex edit your character, but an editor i did not found. Still the real cheating begins now. ;)

Really? I think I must be going blind, because I've searched through the forums for posts containing the words edit, and editor and haven't found any that link to an actual editor or describe how to edit character. All of them have either been about the editor that ships with the game, or people wanting a character editor :P

If you have time, can you link to it? Or give me an idea what the rest of the post was about so I can track it down? Or slap me, for being so inept at searching forums? :D

I think he meant the character recovery tool... which can be used to cheat if you know what you are doing. (just enables you to hex edit which is still pretty nice.)

Because I also did not saw any character editor out yet nor any post related to a working one.

I believe he means the "Pizza Trainer"... it's here somewhere... was posted here like THE day of shipping. If you can't find it, just google Pizza Trainer Titan Quest or something like that. If I recall all it did was give you the option to have have infinite health, energy, gold, skill points and maybe attributes? Not exactly an editor so much as a "cheat code" as it were. If it works like the one for DS2 (yes I used it, :p) it'll just run in the background and you'll hit certain key-commands to enable the cheats.

Ah, okay. I was hoping for a way to drop the 2nd mastery on my main character. I've played around with hex editing my characters already, but I'm definately not a pro with that sort of thing and couldn't figure out how to replace my masteries with it.

Ditto with the pizza trainer. I've downloaded it but once I realized it couldn't be used to re-spec masteries, I never bothered with it.

Yeah the pizza thing is really just for "god mode" type gameplay. That's fun for some folks, and more power to 'em, but that's not my thing.

I do wish there was an editor because there are some things I'd rather do differently on some higher level characters and I really don't want to start over for the 20th time.

Hex Edit for the win... :P
So it's possible to use a hex editor to respec your masteries? I always though that when hex editing, you could only replace strings of text with the same number of characters... Like, you could replace Nature with Defense, but not Nature with Rogue.

Like I said, I'm fairly inexperienced with such things, as I've only ever used it to retexture models in other games.

Shark

Na you would remove the mastery and then you can reselect it/them ig. Numbers would be no problem also , because the value can be changed too.

Just have to make them 0 skills and set enabled to 0 also. Of course you have to add your skill points again.

ok so what am i looking for to edit i want to change my war/nature to a hunter/nature

Shark
07-08-2006, 05:02 PM
You need to change the mastery skilllevel to zero and the skillenabled value to zero too. Best is probably when you unspec your skills ig before.

Then you have to change skillpoints to the value you have spent in the mastery.

hmm, its not working for me. Any tips?

I want to change me secondary mastery from stealth. I hex edited the byte after the names you mentioned but i just got a corrupt character. I only have 4 points in the mastery section and not others in the subskills in game.

The byte in the editor shows 04 I changed it to 00 and changed the activate to 00 and changed skillpoints to 04 from 00.

Shark

jep its normal that its corrupted that the cheat protection to make your character useable again use the recovery tool. (titanquestvault.com) i think you can download there.

Worked like a charm. Had to uninstall then reinstall without the patch though. The recovery tool doesnt work with the patch.

Thanks!

yea if you know how to copy/paste you can get level 1's in legendary with all quests done. I was laughing so hard when I found out how easy it was.

Shark

I think you can cheat every item ig to your character without that much work... duping is easy too! Didnt tested though.

Do you know whether or not you can use 1.08 characters in 1.02? If so, I'm going to have to do a second installation :D

@kipue oversaw you there! ;) The prob is now with 1.08 you cant cheat. So you would need a extra pre patch Installation to use the cheats and then play your chars with 1.08 after they are cheated. :P

perhaps a character editor, like in diablo2, will be ready soon.

obviously i hope no1 will use it on multiplayer, and only to edo his second masteries.
I chose warfare/storm,but i maxed even storm (it was better toassign way less points for my gamestyle)....

why use it on multiplayer? and how? :)

OT
I am italian but i am still shocked when Zizou (one of my favourite n°10 when he was here in Italy, with the GREAT Roberto Baggio) did that headshot. Never expected (even if it is not the first time he hits someone) such a "headshot").

However when i found this .gif i laughed alot....fortunately i was alone in my office :D

There is the option for pvp, and why?
Dont know to show that you are the 1337 Uber roxx0r number one? Or whatever way you write that stuff nowadays. ;)

In D2 there was cheater duels and cheater leaders, so that was the point of it for the real cheaters, not the one who just downloaded some stuff. ;) (not that these dudes lasted long lol)

In open I always thought cheating was ok and i never cheated in closed... but sadly many saw that not the same way than I...

it's only a matter of time before they release a character editor with an item creation tool - want a particular item? no problem. click a button and it'll place it in your inventory, all checksummed up so the game doesnt mind. people will run around with custom created items doing +9999% damage and +255 to all skills.

Sounds like fun (not).

The good think is there is Singleplayer and there will be Custom User Maps you can play with your friends / or alone. And you dont have to care what the cheaters do. ;)

I'm looking forward to all that - including an editor that makes use of some of YOUR discoveries, so people can very easily change the character model they are using by simply using the editor! :)

+255 to all skills is too much to bother way. Skills are capped at an ultimate level.

So has anyone released something that just allows characters to be leveled up, I find myself wanting to try more classes but really uninterested in repeating the first 30 levels. It doesn't get challenging for any combo I've tried so far until you get to the end of China anyways.

Yes, my first map, you can find it in the Custom Quests sub-forum.

bildo84
07-18-2006, 07:50 AM
I used it. Works really well with the TQ Defiler. You'll still need to have someone MP Typhon on normal with to get through to Epic, but the leveling part works well. I suggest using the map 2-3 times with a level 1 character, should put you around level 30.

To do this, you'll have to transfer the character back and forth each time you want to do it, but it's well worth skipping normal mode in my honest opinion.

07-18-2006, 08:59 AM
Yeah, it is a game flaw, IMO, to not automatically allow players characters into the harder difficulty at least after they run ONE toon thru normal.

IT should be optional, forcing each toon to trudge through normal is not right and detracts from the game for those that desire more challange.
Makes one want to smack around the project manager, surely this was considered by the game play testers and would seem obvious to anyone that played the game for long.

I guess time n money constrants forced them to not add a few lines o code to implement that.

Or! I like conspiracies.. maybe it is a plot to offer such 'perks' in a forth coming expansion pack.
THe bastards.

bbird
07-19-2006, 04:43 AM
It would have been a splendid idea to simply make the difficulties available to new characters as soon as you have played through them once. So you could play through it on normal with one character and then start a epic game with a new character. After finishing epic with that character you can continue with it in legendary or create again a new one.

But it actually isn't a problem currently. I've made myself a custom map that gives you enough xp, gold, items and all the quest rewards from normal difficulty. This character can then be imported to the main quest with normal difficulty completed and is indistinguishable from a legit one.
