I am a stormcaller lvl 19.. ice shard maxed and lighting.

now i want to chose my 2nd mastery.. I've decided it will be earth or nature..
earth because people say the core dweller is an excellent tank.
but what about the wolfs in nature? they are good as tanks? they worth something for attacking?

wolfs are like paper compared to the rock dweller.

The core dweller, I believe, is the only pet that has taunt -- that is, he (she?) will actually take enemies off you. Plus as Azrial said he's incredibly tough.

nature will be good for you, because you can use healing magic

I have a level 47 summoner (earth/nature.) I find Nature Mastery to be a good supplment to a spellcaster, but for only one reason: the aura. Heart of Oak doubles your hitpoints and makes you run and cast slightly faster. This gives you a lot more margin of error, and that's important in Legendary difficulty because monsters there move much faster than they do in normal. You can also upgrade it to provide elemental resists, which helps to offset the resist penalty in higher difficulties.

Unfortunately, I think the rest of the Nature tree is really pretty weak.

The wolves do not tank very well. They get a boost in each new difficulty level, but by the time you get to Act 3 they just melt in melee.

The heal spell is decently useful, but potions are cheap and most of the time work just as well. The spell is instant effect, but you have to stop running momentarily to cast it on yourself, which is often not as safe as just drinking a potion while running. And trying to keep your wolves alive with it while they're tanking tigermen is just a sad joke.

Refresh is cool, but it's expensive to cast and most of the spells you'll be using don't have long timers anyway. Refresh is mostly useful to reset longer timers like Colossus Form; it doesn't really help you much to blow 200 mana resetting the 5 to 10 second timers on the earth/storm damage spells.

I have not messed around enough with the briar field or plague lines to comment on them, but neither looks very inspiring.

Basically, you go Nature for a really nice defensive aura that helps you live longer and avoid getting hit better. It's great, but there's not much else in the line that is particularly useful to a pure caster.
