Apocalypto, by Mel Gibson..

Set somewhere in central america, and subtitles.. spoken in a Mayan language, I thought this film was really good.. it's about a tribe that lives in a forest village, and get raided by the city folks.. and taken back to a Mayan city, that looks like a reconstruction of Tikal in Guatemala.. it's really impressive.. as I've been there, and to see the way they brought it back to life is fascinating, and the authentic costumes, and rituals, very brutal of course in a 'passion of christ' type violence.. I wont tell you the whole plot, but the central figure dosn't get his heart cut out like the other victims.. or his head and body chucked down the stairs of the temple..
it's of a type of prophetic doom scenario, similar to the prophecy about the return of the god of legend from the east, in the Inca empire of Peru..
It's the best film that i've seen for ages.. very accurate with all the details..

I watched 'Altered' last night.. it was quite good.. the characters have some depth. It's about a group of 'lumber-jack' types, like 'Travis' on that UFO abduction film.. anyway, they catch an alien in the woods and carry him back to a house and wrap him in chains, but he escapes and runs about causing havok. That's the basic plot. It's very gory.. it could be better, more suspense as there isn't much of that.. as you see the alien right from the start. But the film didn't drag, so that shows it was ok..
'Signs' was a better film of the aliens genre imo. more suspense...

A sequal to the British film.. 28 days later. Not bad also. A virus causes everyone to go ape-shxt.. and run amok.. the virus gets out again, and the story is focussed on one family and how they survive.. the americans are running London, and it's similar to the first film.. same music. It's watchable.
