So, to build the ultimate Core Dweller, what is you second mastery? I simply want him to overcome the lesser effectiveness in Legendary and be a great tank all the way through, bosses and all. Consider this theory, not fact, as I doubt many people aim to have a CD tank the whole game. I'll be doing damage as well -- sitting back is not my aim. The objective is to have a great tank.

Dream?

ToC and Nightmare give a lot of defensive boosts, but otherwise the mastery is bare as far as the CD goes.

Nature?

HoO and massive healing to the CD, but that throws off my being offense as well as I'd have to be a healer. Still, could be good, just more mouse clicks.

Spirit?

Deathchill and RoT push me into melee, but give great defensive and offensive boosts to the CD. Or, gives a chance at a Liche to sit back as more offense, but it's a huge skill sink.

Defense?

Rally gives a heal and the added defensive bonuses. Battle Awareness without synergies gives a base DA boost and some armor.

Hunting?

Study Prey and Call of the Hunt make the CD more offensive, and Herbal Remedy with CD's Inner Fire give a decent regen rate. Doesn't look too impressive, but maybe Monster Lure could take pressure off and let him be more of the offense while I use a bow -- or earth spells -- for support.

Nature. The heart of oak and regrowth will pwninate, as will plague; plague is a super-badass skill tree--max it out for uberness.

I have never had a ton of luck with Plague, seems to spread too slowly. I'll give it a try again though, that's going to be a heavy point sink in nature if I go wolves too. Probably cuts out the healing and leaves me with staff attacks, maybe some Eruption.

So, you want to have the ultimate core dweller and be an uber badass?

I sort of gave my recommendation on how to best make the coredweller tougher as well as be able to support him.

If you decided to invest points in wolves, that's your decision. No one's making you do that. You could put those points into a wide variety of damage-dealing in the earth mastery.

And, we're talking about legendary, right? By then you're going to have a lot of points.

If having a large damage capacity from earth and a super-strong coredweller isn't actually your goal, then I don't understand what you want. If it IS what you want, but the available masteries aren't providing you with the precise image you have in your head of how it should play out, then I recommend busting out the Art Manager and make yourself a mod. ;)

Oh my, I didn't mean to upset your fragile psyche! I tried to search for my wanting to "have the ultimate core dweller and be an uber badass," but I only came up with your post. I didn't think I ever said that, but I had to be sure... just haven't had much luck with plague, and said I'd try it out. I'll go back to lurking now.

I'm sure the battlemage or avenger builds would make effective dwellers with battle standard an art of the hunt but nature is probably the way to go especially if u can get em to fight in the briar ward. And if u manage to find 30 something spare skill points(lol) then the wolves pack buff will definitely make your ultimate dweller.
