My scientific curiosity has led me to research the legend that the Great Wall of China can be seen from the moon. Wikipedia tells us: A Ripley's Believe It or Not! cartoon from May 1932 claimed that the wall is "the mightiest work of man, the only one that would be visible to the human eye from the moon," and Richard Halliburton's 1938 book Second Book of Marvels makes a similar claim, but it is not true. This belief has persisted, assuming urban legend status, sometimes even appearing in school textbooks.

The claim is also made in the Trivial Pursuit game. Continents are barely visible from the moon, and one astronaut claimed that he could barely make out a green area on earth. Many man-made objects are visible from low orbit, and the Great Wall was photographed from Skylab only because the astronaut knew exactly where to look.

But I was really surprised to learn that there isn't really a "Great Wall" of China. Several unconnected walls have been built over a period of over 1200 years to keep out invaders.
They range from piles of stamped-down earth to magnificent structures complete with guard towers. One section has been rebuilt for tourists.

i played the denied ops demo, it was just not very good. i wouldnt recommend it unless your a fps junkie and you NEED to buy every fps you can.

It was a nice trip all in all, we even burnt one of our buses in Crete. Never buy a Fiat, Ever !

But everybody is ok (and tired) and since the wind was blowing in the good direction, we didn't put fire to half the island.

And I can now tell that the power of Ouzo leads indeed to drunkness (when combined with beers...).

Well, San Fran was ok :o ... I mean, Greece was, well... rocky !

We haven't actually seen much of it but its stones (which are wonderful, by the way) and its insurance officers (we had an accident with one bus and the other one... well... burnt, completely, along with four of our hammers and ther papers of one of our (french) assistants (who needed to get back to Switzerland two days after...). Not very relaxing but surely very interesting.

We had sun and hot weather while it was snowing in Switzerland, a storm when we had to take our boat at 3 am, goats and sheeps lying in the middle of the street completely unwilling to move out of there, long walks, long car rides, interesting explanations and totally devastating evenings with cheap ouzo and beers.

The only two negative points we had to face was absolutely terrible coffee (well, the Greek one is not that bad, but don't try to drink anything else they call coffee, it tastes like water) and the lack of a resting day in our 14 days trip (we always woke up at 7 am (when not earlier) to go see the rocks but were back at 6 pm and had then free quarters until the day after.

All in all, that's a trip I would recommend, if you're not afraid of ending your life in a burning fiat on April's Fools Day, that is. (The funniest part of it was when we had to phone and tell our university that it wasn't actually a joke and that the car really did burn but everybody was ok... I think they'll believe it when they'll see the bill. :lol: ) Some of us took wonderful pics and movies and I'll try to get one for you when they'll be online. That's definitely something I'm glad I have experienced once and don't want to face twice (I'm still wondering what would have happen if the wind wasn't blowing in the right direction and half of Crete had burnt...).

Ah, a PS3 now that's my kind of system (I love mine). It's just a shame the games are so pricey.

I've actually been playing TQ a good bit lately as well. The Masteries Mod got me playing again. Been thinking of checking out Lilith as well.

Well I got my PS3 for last year's birthday and th ecomp ain't a gaming comp just it runs TQ and that is the only PC game I play except on the odd occasion when I play C&C or Football manager.

And even then that's rare.

Lilith was good when I tried it a couple of days ago. Haven't played it since.

I really do like my PS3.

On Saturday I'm having heeps of friends over for 4 player Wii and 4 player PS3 :rockon:
