View Full Version : [Prophet] if spell breaker is a boss killer...

...which bosses is it supposed to be killing? I have it and its synergy maxed, am playing normal difficulty, and hits of spellbreaker seem to do a pixel of damage, if that.

I'm playing vanilla TQIT, most recent version. Has it been nerfed in this version, or am I simply missing something?

The synergy is good because you can disrupt skills for 7 seconds. I usually don't put too many points in the main skill until I have loads of skill points. If I want to suck someone's mana dry I just rinse and repeat while running around with squall always active avoiding attacks.

I haven't directly killed too many things with it but it does take off a fair amount of hp on a boss because the boss has so much mana. Boss might also have energy leach resistance so first cast squall with maxed obscured visibility synergy to lower the resist.

I haven't had as great results as I've heard others describe either though?? The way I've heard it told it sounds like it 1 shots hydra or something but I know thats not true hehe

I've only played up to 48th level with storm though so its not my most knowledgeable. I am currently playing a 21 sorceror though :D

Edit: I know its a good skill though because I know how bad it wrecks me when hero monsters strip all my buffs and skill disrupt me!

Use it with Squall.

eh, it was ok with squall+obscured, but not a 'killer' by far lol ;) more like a tickler or backscratcher

Works best on caster type bosses, especially if they have the magical subtype (eg the telkines).

How mnay skill points do you have in Spell Shock, Spellbreaker and Obscured Visibility? These skills scale very nicely with +skills.

Spellbreaker 6/6, Spellshock 8/8, Obscured 6/6 (or is it 8/8..?)

I just specced out of Spellbreaker, mostly because of preference... I thought that I could be spending the 14 points better (ie. in dream AOE and Elec Burn skills) to deal with the majority of enemies, rather than using Spellbreaker on the minority.. :P Not for everyone I suppose.

I never got spell breaker to work its magic either, it did so little I actually wondered if I ever actually managed to hit with it. So I figured a skill which I either do not manage to use correctly or which does next to nothing is not worth my skill points and specced out again.

Curiously every once in a while it actually worked when I tried it later, but having a successful (as in noticeable drain, like 1/3 or 1/4 the energy) every 4th time or so still doesn't make it a good skill in my book.

i have no idea what are you complaining about
this skill can be amazing.
when i use it against mages (skellis, satyers) and some turtles, it can one hit them (well with squall on ;) )
and even if the spell miss fire here and there, 80% hiting mobs for one hit kill is very nice.

as for bosses, it works un some of them (maybe not 100% damage, but still)
it worth the points invested

Well, I never tried it on turtles or other regular mobs, I wouldn't bother with such a spell for them ;) It frequently enough has next to no effect on bosses, which is about the only time it would come in handy. So to me it is a waste of skill points as it always fails when you actually want it.

you are right.

i use it just for the fun factor. for actual use, maybe it is not so common

1. Max it and the synergy.

2. Use on enemies with type "Magical" and a ton of energy (eg: Polyphemus, Telkines).

3. Watch the magic work.

I personally prefer this to Lightning on my storm characters.

Ubermod hero-killer. Only use for it I've seen.

Oh, and also turtles, brutes, shamans, and mages.

I tried maxed out spellbreaker again yesterday to see if anything had changed with its usefulness, but it did insignificantly small damage to everything, even magical creatures. It would drain mana, even Toxeus's after 3-4 applications, but no real damage. I used it a lot leveling up, more for the fun factor, but have found it ultimately a fairly pointless spell. I didn't recheck it, but the last time I used it on Typhon and other bosses, it didn't matter if they were at 0 mana, all skills were freely usable without mana, hence the reason for dropping it.

I'm wondering if those using it are running some mod or patch that fixed it.

Have you tried applying -resistances, like Squall?

hmm now that im running legendary the spellbreaker + squall combo has lost it effectiveness... It did wonders in Epic though.

I've heard stories about Spell Breaker's awesomeness but never tried it my self. I think I read somewhere that it does wonders with right gear setup.

I'm curious what kind of gear setup would enhance it other than +skills gear.

@poinas, I tried with +4 skills and with/without squall. Would the accursed prefix be carried with it, or one of the relics with massive energy drain?

Poinas

The effect on accursed rings only carries over if you hit with a weapon. Same goes for the relic.

If you cant get Spell Breaker to work, you may have to get even more -resistances. Monkey King's and Shen-nong's relics, or unique weapons will do. Hit with a weapon, apply Squall and then have a go. Personally I don't think it's worth it, but may turn out to be good against bosses.

What about druids?
Does the squall work with plague so I can cast them both and then use spell breaker?

Nope, Susceptibility doesn't drop Energy Burn resistance. Now, Soul Blight on the other hand... wonder what a lvl20 Lich could do... :)
