This game has been refered to Diablo so many times, of course it does appear so; anways, I was wondering about the potion use. From the videos, which everyone was complaining about the one-hit kills, I assumed the character was just a lot higher lvl for the purpose of doing the video or whatever. Which I might add would be my thought to that other topic, i dont see it being all one shot kills. Getting off topic though! lol. So question remains, Is this a potion spamming game? As in tap Use HP pot every second? or is it goign to be a lot slower and more based on your character skill not how good your potions are? Just curious if anyone knows.

-Thanks

From the
Lead Gameplay Designer: Arthur Bruno

As you progress in the game you will find bigger and better potions to keep up with your increases in hit-points. Potions of the same type will stack in your inventory up to 5 deep. You can fill up as much of your inventory as you want with potions. In order to allow you to use life and energy potions effectively without filling up your quick-slot bar with every size potion we've added an intelligent potion drinking feature. When you bind potions to your quick-slot bar it will just add a default "drink potion" button for life or energy. When you click on it, the game will try to use the smallest size potion necessary to fill the amount of life that is missing and save your big potions for when you really need them. It always errs on the side of caution though so it won't underestimate your need and choose a smaller potion when you're losing life rapidly.

And he did say this to:

You will be able to go into options and reconfigure the hotkeys however you like. So binding "drink health potion" to your spacebar will certainly be possible.

That's some really good info thank you for posting that, and that sounds great from the look of it, i guess i should refrase my question a little bit better:

Do you take tons and tons of damage in this game, where its constantly demanding potion use?

i guess from the look of that info I can go with a yes though. Again thank you for that :)

Oh and also are the potions instant hp, or like some other games where it gives you x amount of xp over a few seconds?

Don't worry if you don't have an answer, these are silly questions that wont at all affect my wanting to play the game, I am very excited about it, but as always very curious :D

when it would be a potion spamming game, there is something wrong with the items cuz there's no use for armor when u get hit all the time is there! :p

so my guess is: it's only a potion spamming game without any form of defence. or when you don't know how to build a char. or when you like using potions while not needing them. lol
other than that it will probably be like any other game: you can make it as hard as you want.

about the taking tons and tons of dmg: from the looks of the items numbers in the thousands seem a bit high, considering we haven't really seen items yet doing dmg anyway near that number :p

Right right, that would make sense as there is a class called "Defensive" lol. :)

Similar to what someone else posted, your need to consume potions is highly dependant upon the type of character you build and how you outfit them. Some classes hardly need to use potions at all, while other's will find themselves spamming potions during certain encounters. If your character is configured to maximize damage, you're usually doing it at the expense of your defenses. If you have a finesse character, you might be able to avoid almost all damage with a lot of tactical manuevering but running into the middle of a mob and slugging it out will result in taking heavy damage. Highly defensive characters will be able to take a beating without losing a lot of life but will take longer to clear out enemies.

The type of monsters you're fighting will also have a large impact. Your average "fodder" monster like a Satyr Warrior isn't that smart and usually doesn't have any threatening skills. A lot of them can pile up and cause damage but, by themselves, they aren't difficult to defeat. Larger groups of Satyrs will usually have a Satyr champion type among them that can use skills and is much more difficult to take down. This can present a challenge, especially when some champions like the Satyr Pillager can enchant their allies weapons, making the whole group much more threatening. Things really get perilous though, when you face more intelligent monsters such as Maenads. They are fast, usually have multiple of their champions in a group, use powerful skills, and will even dodge projectile attacks.

Under normal circumstances drinking a potion will instantly restore enough health to save your life for a couple seconds but after that initial burst, the rest fills in slowly.

As a final note - yes, in gameplay videos people are generally in god-mode with powered up characters. Usually when those videos are made someone, often a marketing person, will pump up a character with high-level equipment and skills that they want to show off and run through a couple different areas of the game that look visually interesting. Obviously they don't want to die while making the video, so god mode is turned on.

Of course, in the final game there won't be a god-mode and you won't have the best equipment and skills at the beginning of the game, so monsters will be a little more threatening.

Ok Cool, so its sort of like Diablo where it isn't completely instant. I actually like that :D .

Thanks Medierra :)

A simple way to ask this question - are the heals on timers ?

An initial burst to top off health with heal over period of time is fine, but if you allow them to spam heals you give them god mode.

Spamming heals or any potions can lead to game exploits, and lack of a players skill, he/she will not become a good player as they become dependent on the healing potions instead of learning how to actually use there characters skills.

Im only as big as my stack of healing potions.

do you mean chugging 3 pots right after eachother to get the burst up to fill your health meter again? well if i look at medierra's post i don't think that there will be such a thing, since the first pot is still filling the meter. but anyway a post from a dev could clear that up too so lets wait for that.

and btw welcome to the forum lestai i hope you can find what you need out here! :D

Ty ToiMoi

Im omw to the welcome threads, Soon ;)

Yes i did mean chugging 3 in a row right after each other in order to keep the burst health topped off. There is a few things to consider, one can rush there toon to build up twinks, some players are compulsive about making new Alts, this part of the game and rushing should always be a concern to the devs, as it damages the replay value of the game.

A timer even 10secs would prevent players from double casting by acident.

Hmm 1 sec lol

Best sollution i can come up with is when the potion has finished working then you are able to drink another potion, so if it has a x-amount of healing time your stuck waiting until its done healing and this prevents multiple top offs, so no god mode, and a group doing massive amounts of damage would still kill you so keeps the game a challange for all players. ;)

Lestai

lol OK that's a deal :D

well still we don't know if there will be a timer used in this game.. i'll copy your post from this thread in the questions to dev thread, since that's where most of the answers are given :)

There is a short timer on potions when you drink them. Players will not be able to spam drinking potions and have the health stack above their maximum health level. The same applies for energy. We are still fine tuning the durations so I am not prepared to release any specific details at this time :)
