How do you tell if mastermind is working?

I just put a point in this today.. while my lich and nightmare are active i see no icons to tell if its doing anything. is it just "on" all the time? i dont think so seeing as it says it costs 50 energy. dont get it.

There should be an icon. If there isn't, it's not on.

ok. i restarted the game and it seems to be working now. sometimes the nightmare takes its sweet time before casting it though. kind of annoying

It seems the nightmare needs to be below full health/energy to cast mastermind.

It could be that you did not re-summon the Nightmare after you have allocated a point in Master Mind.
